“This is, without a doubt, the worst piece if garbage I have seen in my eighteen years of being alive. Even more shocking than the fact that this trash exists is the notion that it was well received by audiences everywhere. Even more horrifying is the idea that people are hailing it as 'realistic' and 'meaningful.' This movie is about as 'meaningful' as the alcohol-infueled rants of the legless stepmother in "Buddy Boy," a film that you should rent after I save you from watching "Suburbia."
The 'plot' follows the teenaged Evan (played by Bill Coyne, a young actor who has the charm and acting skills of a block of wood,) as he escapes his alcoholic mother and runs off to squat with a bunch of punks in a derelict building. What I dig about it:
✔ Properly punk. Feels like the real deal, which is helped along by the sort of "docu-drama" style of it, and the fact that the "actors" were "real" punks, and not actors.
✔ Good writing.
✔ Decent, "true-to-life" drama, even if the acting is sub-par.
✔ Great soundtrack.
✔ Suburbia in turmoil. It's always good to peer under the nice glossy top coat of suburban life.
“This is a very good and realistic picture of the american society during the Vietnam war,and an obvious critical attitude about one rotten and hypocrite after-war suburbian society.The movie follows the lives of outcast punk-rock teenagers living in an abandoned house,and while they're beeing threated like some low life scum by the local rednecks,frustrated war veterans,what's under the surface is a completely different picture.A picture that shows a complete failure and negligence about the young generations,who are left in shadows of middle-aged frustrations of their parents and a lack of emitions and care.The main backbones of society are ruined and replaced with bitterness,weakness and worthlessness,which strongly affects on a rebelious adolescent behaviour!
