Survivors of the 3D domination (12 movies items)

"3D POTENTIAL: Another CGI film, which is incredibly realistic in detail and has plenty of action scenes, including roadrunner rides and an entertaining Apocalypse Now parody. REASON FOR NOT BEING IN 3D: The film wasn't made in 3D, so Gore Verbinski refused to convert it because conversion is pointless and he didn't feel there was a dimension missing."

"06/03/2011 - We weren't directly setting off to see this but when we had 45mins to wait for "Unknown" or as we expected it to be "Taken 2" we thought we'd go see this instead. Now I know it's designed for kids so only half of this was going to appeal to me, you know the Adult humour mixed in which goes completely above kids heads. It was a fun enough film with plenty of action and one liners.....very well animated, I still find it amazing how far computer animation has come, the water effects"

The Top 70+ Animated Features (79 movies items)

" "Here in the Mojave Desert animals have had millions of years to adapt to the harsh environment. But the lizard? He's going to die." - Ambrose Nickelodeon charmed critics (but not quite the other people) with Rugrats in Paris and The Wild Thornberrys Movie, and also made people chuckle with Jimmy Neutron. The fans of SpongeBob SquarePants adored his movie. But there were other animated movies that didn't bode well, like the other Rugrats movies, Hey Arnold and obviously Barnyard. The Last Airb"

Watched Movies 2011 (186 movies items)

"New Theater Beautiful, bonkers, and completely brilliant. Mostly a western starring anthropomorphic animals (with a sprinkling of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for good measure), Rango is completely different than anything Pixar or Dreamworks is putting out, and that works in its favor. The visuals by ILM skate the edge between realism and stylized design perfectly. The humor is a bit off beat, with a good mix of jokes that will right fly over the youngsters' heads and jokes that appeal to all"

A good movie

“To be honest, I really had no idea what to expect from this flick. Indeed, nowadays, the market for CGI animated features is pretty much saturated and it didn’t seem to be the best gamble for a director like Gore Verbinski to experiment with this genre when the competition is already pretty intense. Eventually, it was actually pretty successful and it even won the Academy Award for the Best Animated Film (there was no Pixar feature nominated so that could explain a lot). Personally, I thought it was indeed pretty good and I was above all impressed by the animation. Indeed, wow ! This was a really gorgeous animated picture ! Only for this, it was worth watching it and, in my opinion, it looked much better than all those crappy 3D animated movies I have seen in 2010 or ever since. Unfortun” read more

Had its flaws but overall, a good film to watch.

“I first read about Rango just after Johnny Depp had completed Public Enemies and when I found out that Gore Verbinski would be directing it and after his great but slowly weak Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy which Depp played the lead role, expectations became quite high. After seeing the trailer, it looked like it could be a good bit of fun but didn't look amazing. For the first time, there has been an animated western that became a success and western is a rather rare genre in the animated world. Anyway, when I saw it on the day it was released in the UK (in fact, the very first showing at my local cinema), I could see the fantastic side of the film but I couldn't help but notice one or two disappointing flaws.

Where I found this film rather flawed was that it began very slowl” read more

" One sentence review: Although this stars Johnny Depp and directed by the guy who did Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy, it wasn't entirely impressive story-wise but still is a visually stunning film. FULL REVIEW HERE."

"The only other Depp film I'm interested in seeing this year (do we really need another Pirates?). It used to be I was up for any film he did, but the past few years I've become burnt out on seeing him on the screen...he's really overexposed lately & I feel like he's stopped saying no to crappy movies (or else has started saying yes to everything thrown his way) & basically walks through his roles. The trailer for this looks good though...it's easily the best for an animated film I've seen for th"

"Rango caught my attention not only for Johnny Depp but it's cast is awesome and it is directed by the same guy who gave us the Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy. Verbinski has worked with Johnny for three consecutive times and hopefully Rango will become a grand accomplishment. PREDICTED RATING: 7/10 OVERALL RATING: 6/10"
