This film doesn’t mess about. Within the first few minutes a window cleaner is decapitated by an unknown beast and a sunbathing beauty is plucked from a rooftop. David Carradine and Richard Roundtree’s cops are sent to deal with a mysteriously flayed corpse. And a seeming random crook takes part in a diamond heist.

Description: Genre pioneer Larry Cohen, who broke new horror ground with the killer-baby hit It's Alive!, takes a stab at the giant-monster scenario with this enjoyable low-budget exercise. The title refers to the winged Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, represented here as a dragon-like flying lizard (thanks to some quaint but amusing stop-motion animation from David Allen), who decides to take up residence in the art-deco spire of the Chrysler Building, taking frequent jaunts in the midday sun to nip the heads off various hapless New Yorkers. The resulting bloody mess confounds detectives Shepard (David Carradine) and Powell (Richard Roundtree), who ... (more)

Interesting film facts (393 movies items)

"The title 'Q' is short for Quetzlcoatl, the Aztec god who was half reptile and half bird. Writer/director Larry Cohen, according to interviews, once looked at the Chrysler Building and said, "That'd be the coolest place to have a nest." This single thought was the idea which began the creation of this movie. In an interview on NPR's "Fresh Air", Michael Moriarty described the scene in which he auditions as a piano player. The music he played was a self-composed and unrehearsed improvisation,"

My movie year 2011 (tai jotakin) (482 movies items)

Darkly Amused (51 movies items)

"very enjoyable monster movie and i'd say the funniest Larry Cohen film i've seen to date. Michael Moriarty was sensational and David Carradine was pretty damn good."

The first half hour of this movie really sets up your expectations – a mad monster movie with wise-cracking cops with attitude. Sadly, it doesn’t quite live up to this premise, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good movie. It’s just not a 50s-style B-movie.

The lead character of Jimmy (played by an excellent Michael Moriarty) is an unusual choice. The film follows him and his criminal ineptitude until he finds Q’s nest at the top of the Chrysle” read more
