''You cannot change fate. However, you can rise to meet it, if you so choose.''

On a journey to find the cure for a Tatarigami's curse, Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between the forest and Tataraba, a mining colony. In this quest he also meets San, the Mononoke Hime.

It takes a lot for me to call somebody a genius, but I think that is the only way of describing Miyazaki and his achievements. He continues to make consistently fantastic films and this one is no exception.

You are plunged straight into the action from the very beginning of the film and that sets the tone for the following 2 hours. With amazing animation and another truly enchanting... read more

One of those movies you don't see every day, month or year. The story is simple, modest and at the same time, groundbreaking and epic for its mix of reality and fantasy (actually the premise is very similiar to Nausicaa's). The characters are also very simple. However you can't help but sympathize with them, even with the antagonists, each one of them is unique, well developed and with its own fun... read more

While protecting his village from a rampaging boar-god, the young warrior Ashitaka becomes afflicted with a deadly curse. To find the cure that will save his life, he journeys deep into sacred depths of the Great Forest Spirit's realm where he meets San (Princess Mononoke), a girl raised by wolves. It's not long before Ashitaka is caught in the middle of a battle between iron-ore prospecting humans and the forest dwellers. He must summon the spirit-powers and all his courage to stop man and nature from destroying each other.

"MOVIE:follows the journey of the last Emishi prince, Ashitaka, and his attempts to make peace between the human settlement, Iron-town, and the creatures living in the forest that surrounds it...notes by me: If you never watched this film, or any other hayao miazaki film, then life is probably a boring and empty place for you. I encourage you to watch this and every other Hayao Miazaki film in this list, as it will leave you with deep feelings and emotions you cannot explain. every Hayao miazaki "

30 From 97: My Favorite Films From 1997 (30 movies items)

"Eastern folklore and environmental symbolism meet head on, anime style, in this richly textured and complicated fairy tale. Even though I enjoyed this as a movie that features mythological beasts and forest gods, gremlins and spirits, that focuses more on the adult sensibilities of it's viewers, I probably would've liked it a bit more had I not been so distracted by the heavy accented (and IMO, the terribly miscast) voices of Billy Bob Thornton and Minnie Driver in the English dubbed rendition."
