Ordet is absolutely amazing. The combination of sublime camera work and exceptional performances give it a real intensity. Whilst being very restrained in all aspects of its narrative, characterisation, visual compositions and structure, it attains an incredibly hypnotic and haunting style. Its images convey so much emotion in the characters by allowing their expressions to work in tandem with mas... read more

Nick's Top 100 Films (100 movies items)

""That Ordet is a great film, one of the greatest ever made, only a rash or foolish person will deny. But even less than with other great films can we afford to let the category of greatness limit our response, because Ordet demands more from us, and has more to give, than almost any other film." - Chris Fujiwara "he ending is perhaps the most simple, confounding, shocking, inevitable, breathtaking, breath-giving(?)... in all of cinema." - Adam Kempenaar"

Movie Reviews (1501-1550) (50 movies items)

" The Ups: Simplistic movie about faith and belief is powerful due to it's simple nature and no effects making it a film where one has to accept the words and actions of the characters instead. It is also a fascinating psychological study and an absorbing look into a world where miracles can happen if you only let even the most "crazy" voice be heard instead of being ridiculed. The Downs: It will be too quirky, strange, slow and profound for some to be accepted in their tiny minds."

"19.8. Samaan asiaan uskotaan, mutta oma tapa on aina parempi kuin muiden. Naapurin hupakko ei ole tarpeeksi arvokas pojalleni, mutta jos poikani ei ole tarpeeksi arvokas naapurin hupakolle niin lähdetään sotajalalle. Kaikessa on kyse minusta, ei isosta herrasta tai muista."
