But that's just one aspect of this heartbreak drama, it is also a maternal war and a forbidden romance between a married man and a single woman, that curiously, was a Hollywood norm at the time. It's as if that immorality was more romantic than any... read more

Now, Voyager

Really three films in one, Now, Voyager is an absolutely intoxicating experience. One part breathless romance, one part character transformation and one part kindred-spirit-soothes-all-wounds weepie, this is the Warner Brother’s melodrama to end them all. A towering acting achievement in Bette Davis’ illustrious crown in which she changes from dowdy and neurotic to glamorous and confident soci... read more

Charlotte Vale is a young woman who lives with an abuisive mother, on a verge of a breakdown Charlotte is sent off to a sanatorium, where afterwards she comes out a new woman. The movie is a wounderfull story about over coming obstacles, and finding out what really matters in life. I really enjoyed the movie and thought Bette Davis was at her best, Bette is an outstanding actress and this is one o... read more

Filmsite Greatest Tearjerkers Scenes/Movie Moments (318 movies items)

"The final famous tearjerking scene between Jerry Durrance (Paul Heinreid) and Charlotte Vale (Bette Davis), in which Jerry asked once more: "Shall we just have a cigarette on it?" to which she responded breathlessly: "Yes, sir," holding out an opened cigarette box. He took two cigarettes and put them in his mouth, lit them both, and then handed one over to Charlotte; the film ended with Charlotte's most memorable line on the balcony - although she knew Jerry would never leave his wife, they foun"

"The famous cigarette trick occurs in a tale of love between Charlotte Vale (Bette Davis), a middle-aged, withdrawn spinster from a wealthy Boston family who is transformed from an ugly duckling into a beautiful, self-assured woman, and a handsome, unhappily-married, suave European named Jerry Durrance (Paul Henreid).
