A film projectionist works on an invention to record human dreams with the help of a friend who is making a robot. When they succeed, he sees his own dreams of a true love who died long ago. She then shows up in reality as a spirit that only he can see, explaining that they are reincarnating lovers. She tries to help him be happy with his wife until they can rejoin in the spirit world, but as he learns about metaphysics he thinks only of her.
