On the surface it's just a low budget zombie film. The fact that it became the defining film of its genre ,and even a social commentary at a moment of civil-rights unrest in the United States, just goes to show that great films can be made without a lavish production schedule. Sure, the acting isn’t great. Whilst Duane Jones is pretty good, it’s his character that really sets the film alight (... read more

**First of all, I'm not American or British, so forgive me, readers, if my English has a few mistakes.

One of the greatest horror films ever made, the original Night of the Living Dead proves that you don't need astronomical budgets to develop a solid, well-done and most important for the genre, scary story.

Initiating with a relatively simple story, the film develops... read more

This was the first black and white and the first zombie film I ever watched. I blame my love of zombies on this movie. The fact it was black and white added to the creepy in my opinion. This is a classic film. If you haven't seen this yet please do so! This was remade in 1990, yes it was good but it doesn't go the original justice.

Chaos descends upon the world as the brains of the recently deceased become inexplicably reanimated, causing the dead to rise and feed on human flesh. As the catastrophe unfolds, a young woman visiting her father's grave takes refuge in a nearby farmhouse, where she is met by a man who protects her and barricades them inside.

Moviewatcher122's 2017 Film Diary: July (12 movies items)

"July 18 "They're coming to get you, Barbara, there's one of them now!" Even though I had a feeling that George A. Romero wasn't going to live for much longer, I didn't think it would be as sudden as it was. It was pretty much a given that I was going to watch one of his movies to celebrate his work with because not only was he a major influence for the genre, but back in 2011 when I was just getting into horror films this was one of the first ones I ever watched. I was starting off with ones"

Movies watched in 2017 (42 movies items)

"26th of June, Internet Night of the Living Dead on syystäkin zombie-elokuvien kiistaton klassikko, sillä se sisältää monia lajityypillisiä elementtejä, jotka ovat sittemmin vakiintuneet kauhuelokuvan kliseiksi. Nykymittapuulla Romeron ensiohjaus vaikuttaa ensisilmäyksellä hyvinkin vanhentuneelta, mutta kannattaa muistaa, että Romero ei luonut pelkästään paljon matkitun ja jäljitellyn mestariteoksen, vaan uudisti kokonaan kauhuelokuvan genren puhuttelevilla maailmanlopun visioillaa"

500 Essential Cult Movies (502 movies items)

" Romero's apocalyptic vision is terrifyingly nihilistic and completely irrational; it's also gory and, though the effects may look cheap now, disgustingly visceral. But beyond the extreme gore it provides us with unsettling social commentary during a time when the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement loomed large in the background. This is a now-classic and recognizably subversive horror film, whose influence can be detected far and wide in the horror genre even today."

October 2016 Horrorfest (21 movies items)

"Re-watch - Oct. 16th I couldn't resist this one either. I got to finally see my favorite horror movie on the big screen, in the city it was filmed in, at one of the first theatres you could buy tickets to see it back in 1968, and during the same month it originally opened wider than its original screening. Turns out of those theatres that screened it back then, the one I attended is also the only one still operating all these years later (though the name has changed), so there was a deep apprec"
