Very powerful film with solid performances!

Despite, Network being a famous classic, I was unsure whether I would like it at first because I just don't really like those kind of films but the actors and director that were involved with the film made me watch. When I did watch this film, I wasn't disappointed but I was blown away by it! What a powerful film Network turned out to be that I was gripped by all the way through. It was obviously ... read more

Two decades later, this iconic American New Wave renegade text is even more startling than it once was-was Hollywood ever this cerebral, this caustic, this ethically apocalyptic? That 90 percent of Network's satire has become fulfilled prophecy by now doesn't take the shine off of its broadsword. Reality-show whoredom, death TV, New Globalistic anti-humanism, audience as robotic consumer-it's all ... read more

Description: A fourth-place network is struggling for ratings and turns it's News division over to the entertainment division. As one of the ramifications of this move the news Anchor is fired. He goes on the air with a wonderfully daffy rant and rave session culminating in his insisting that people go to the windows and yell, "I'm mad as hel ... (more)

New York movies:The 100 best films set in New York (100 movies items)

"More jeremiad than satire, Sidney Lumet’s well-oiled production of Paddy Chayefsky’s prophetic masterpiece follows an amoral TV conglomerate that exploits a mentally ill news anchor by turning his low-rated national news show into whorehouse entertainment. This still-prescient vivisection of modern culture’s vapidity crackles with the nervous energy of midtown’s hothouse broadcasters.—Stephen Garrett"

Film Journal 2015 (68 movies items)

"An occasionally tedious melodrama filled with monologues and temper tantrums. The script has been lauded but it contains so many ideological cores that I have a hard time calling it very good. What I mean by that is that the strings just don't stay in place. On one hand you have the most complete of them, about the effect of TV on the masses, but because it's portrayed not through simplistic means but by yet another ideological dilemma, that of capitalism vs ideology/religion/nation in the globa"

Reality-show whoredom, death TV, New Globalistic anti-humanism, audience as robotic consumer-it's all here and all still hamburger in the teeth of this movie, written with hissing rage and in huge, thoughtful paragraphs by Paddy Chayefsky and directed with a vivid sense of '70s genuineness by Sidney Lumet.” read more

"Katsottu 18.12.2012 Viiltävä satiiri mediamaailman raadollisuudesta, skandaalihakuisesta uutisoinnista ja television turmelemasta sukupolvesta. Lumet saa koulittua esiin vahvoja roolisuorituksia. Peter Finch on erinomainen maanisena televisioprofeettana, jonka jyrkät totuudet maailmanmenosta saavat koko organisaation heilumaan ohuen nuoren päällä. Robert Duvall esittää kusipäätä, Faye Dunaway menestyksenhimoista työnarkomaania ja William Holden pällistelee hämmentyneenä ympärill"

"First viewing - July 24th A hell of a film, with lots to say about the ways TV affects us as well as a terrific exploration behind the scenes. Most impressive to me is that the ideas in the film are still relevant today, even though we're almost 30 years past its creation. I feel like it should be shown on TV once a month to ensure more people see it, that's how important the messages in the film are. So why haven't I given it a perfect score? I felt like the ending didn't have quite the impac"

The Best Movies Ever, chosen by 94 actors (110 movies items)

" Quote: Duvall, Dunaway, Finch, Holden and Ned Beatty...are you kidding? This film is as true today as it was when they made it over 30 years ago. It's just amazing how little things haven't changed since then. Faye Dunaway kills it in this film. Her body language is so precise and her character's ambition is simply frightening. Ned Beatty's monologue alone makes this one worth watching. (Eva Mendes) Points: 6 Chosen by: Eva Mendes (3), Rosario Dawson (3)"
