An interesting failure

I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie but since I have a weak spot for Jodie Foster (if I remember correctly, she was even nominated for an academy award), I definitely wanted to check i out. Basically, it is one of those typical movies dealing with a disabled person like for example, 'I am Sam' or 'Rain man'. What those movies are in common is that, on one hand, you have one actor who port... read more

With a phenomenal cast Nell delivers a great message, great story, and great photography. This is among one of our favorites. Jodie Foster (Little Man Tate, The Silence of the Lambs) really delivered a memorable performance. She deserves all the awards and nominations she received for the part. In my view she deserved an Oscar. Nell, is a innocent woman raised by her mother in the beautiful state ... read more

Jodie's zenith

A lot of suspending of disbelief is needed for the plot, circumstances and the overly idyllic ending.

Yet embedded in this is the best and possibly most moving performance that Jodie Foster has ever given in her life (so far, I fervently hope). The rest of the cast support well because they're also solid but they're almost incidental to the story in some ways, like the gilded frame ... read more

"Watched on: 8/30 This movie may have seemed good on paper, but it was just so ridiculous. The first scene in this movie is alternating shots of the forest and Nell decorating a dead body while Nell keeps crying over the soundtrack. Any sensible person would have turned it off after that, but for some reason I kept watching, I regret it. I seriously cannot believe Jodie Foster was nominated for an Oscar for this movie."

Jodie's zenith

“A lot of suspending of disbelief is needed for the plot, circumstances and the overly idyllic ending.

Yet embedded in this is the best and possibly most moving performance that Jodie Foster has ever given in her life (so far, I fervently hope). The rest of the cast support well because they're also solid but they're almost incidental to the story in some ways, like the gilded frame around an old master painting.

She manages to send the message with crushingly sweet tenderness and beauty: that Nell Kellty is the real thing, it's the rest of us that need to wake up. It's hard not to envy her, it's far, far easier just to fall in love.

There are some incredible scenes and vignettes in this film. The scene of Nell remembering her dead twin, out by the lake, throug” read more

Her English is incomprehensible due to the her mother having a speech defect and their isolated life. Her twin sister died, her mother died and then she was left to live all by herself. Interesting failures (23 movies items)

" Note: It is one of those movies (like I am Sam or Rain man) where the actor portrays an handicapped person in a heartbreaking perfomance but the plot is just damned worthless and goes for the cheap thrills. Why should you watch it anyway? Back in the 90's-80's, Jodie Foster was one of the best actress around. If you don't believe it, go check this movie. "
