A good movie

Since I kept hearing good things about this flick and since I´m a big fan of Robert Altman, I really wanted to watch this movie. Unfortunately, I thought it was a little bit disappointing though. Basically, it is one of those hyperlink features which means there are multiple & parallel story lines interacting with each others. Altman was an expert at this genre and this movie is considered as one... read more

"A typical meandering Robert Altman movie with several bright spots but just as many rough spots."

"The concluding tragic and shocking sequence at a country music festival/political rally at Nashville's Parthenon in which popular country singer Barbara Jean (Ronee Blakley) had just finished performing "My Idaho Home" and then was assassinated - and quickly replaced with unknown performer Albuquerque (Barbara Harris) who calmed the crowd with "It Don't Worry Me"."

A good movie

“Since I kept hearing good things about this flick and since I´m a big fan of Robert Altman, I really wanted to watch this movie. Unfortunately, I thought it was a little bit disappointing though. Basically, it is one of those hyperlink features which means there are multiple & parallel story lines interacting with each others. Altman was an expert at this genre and this movie is considered as one of his many masterpieces. And indeed, all the actors involved were pretty good and the music was alright but there was no plot whatsoever (which is something that never really bothers me and it didn’t bother here either). The main issue is that I never really cared about the characters involved and what was happening to them. The thing with hyperlink features is that, usually at the end, there ” read more

Movies of 2011 (620 movies items)

"Home - New A film of amazing moments, with stories spreadout across multiple days at a convention in Nashville. There are at least five separate plotlines running at anyone time and they all exist largely to build up a tapestry of the event. There's some really darkly comic moments in the film, like an incessant British reporter getting up in everyone's business, and some truly tragic moments such as one character forced to strip after realising no one wants to hear her sing and another despera"

100 Essential Female Film Performances (99 movies items)

"Lily Tomlin When I think of Tomlin, I tend to think of the comedic genius she has come to be known for, as most cinema enthusiasts likely do. It was the straight-woman role of Linnea, in maverick director Altman’s Nashville, that brought the versatile performer her lone Oscar nomination. Alternately mysterious, warm, and filled with vim and vigor, Linnea is a gospel singer who is busy taking care of business (and her family) at the flashpoint of the titular city’s impending nervous breakdown"

The 67 Most Influential Films Ever Made (67 movies items)

"Influential, How? Every character is a star. Robert Altman first hit on his sprawling, improv style of filmmaking with M*A*S*H in 1970, but he brought it to a pitch with this epic C&W satire. No less than 26 character actors rub shoulders, sing, cry and vie for the limelight. Money Shot: A mega pile-up on the highway featuring almost the entire cast. "
