An average movie

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since I have a weak spot for Kristin Scott Thomas, I thought I might as well check it out. First of all, I thought it was rather odd that, even though it was taking place in France, none of the main characters or actors were actually French, even if  Thomas was perfectly cast as a half-French woman. Description: Despondent New Yorker Mathias Gold (Kevin Kline) ventures to Paris with plans of liquidating the apartment inherited from his late father, but runs into an unexpected roadblock when he discovers that the flat is currently inhabited by his father's former lover, an elderly Englishwoman named Mathilde Girard (Maggie Smith), and her adult daughter Chloé (Kristin Scott Thomas). Even though I'm French, I have to admit that I was really clueless about this whole 'viager' concept but, combined with the ” read more

The Good & The Bad - Movies Watched In 2017 (472 movies items)

"I thought this was going to be an out and out comedy but I would say it more of a dramedy. Having said that, this was a touching movie about relationships and dysfunctional families and a very strange set of French Laws. In a nutshell, Mathias Gold, played by Kevin Kline, inherits an apartment in France from his late father. Spending his last dime to travel to Paris he discovers to his dismay that the apartment comes with a tenant Mathilde Girard (Maggie Smith) who is allowed to stay there until"
