A good movie

It has been a while since I wanted to check this flick. Indeed, the ratings were pretty good (in Listal and Imdb) and there is something really appealing in Isabel Coixet's work. Eventually, I ended up with some mixed feelings. I mean, I thought it was a rather intriguing movie and I liked it because the perfomances and the directing were very good. But the film is not flawless. Roger Ebert didn't like this movie at all and explained it pretty well in his review. One of the main issues is that, if you look at it carefully, the main character is actually so f*cking selfish. In all her decisions, she doesn't care at all about what everybody else think, feel or whatever. The other issue, for me, was that she is supposed to be some kind of "white trash" but she acts, sounds, behave more like a poet/philosopher and it doesn't really fit. Still, in spite of these flaws, I liked the movie for the reasons explained earlier, it is no masterpiece but it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
