"You see, boys forget what their country means by just reading The Land of the Free in history books. Then they get to be men they forget even more. Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books, Miss Saunders. Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't, I can, and my children will. Boys ought to grow... read more

I also understood what other things involving politics such as the government, laws and making decisions about things around the world. This is probably the feel-good political film because Capra is probably ... read more

A true moment of repentance by Senator Joseph Paine at the end of the movie. This is the best scene in the movie by far. It would cost him every bit of worldly fame, honor, and comfort. Yet, the cause of truth wins out. I think this movie also reminds us that corruption is not just a present day reality. Corruption exists because people at there core have sin. No one is exempt. There has ne... read more

Description: Two slimy fat-cat legislators recruit Jefferson Smith, an innocent and staunchly principled Montana scout leader, as the state's new Senator, hoping to exploit his naviete and community pride to bring home pork-barrel funds. Once he ascends to Capitol Hill, however, Mr. Smith finds nothing but deep-rooted corruption in Washington, D.C ... (more)

Filmsite Greatest Tearjerkers Scenes/Movie Moments (318 movies items)

"The climactic, emotional scene of the idealist Senator Jefferson Smith's (James Stewart) exhausting filibuster (almost 24 hours) in the US Senate against the graft of distinguished Senator Joseph Paine (Claude Rains), with his exposition on moral integrity, American democracy, and 'lost causes' before collapsing to the Senate floor: "Great principles don't get lost once they come to light. They're right here. You just have to see them again...You think I'm licked. You all think I'm licked. Well,"

In an extraordinary metaphor emphasizing the Capitol Dome high above him, Smith imaginativel"
