Most of the movies I saw in my childhood were action movies. I remember the days when I used to fast-forward the films on my VCR(!) to the action sequences. Once the scene would appear, I would record it with my father's mobile and then enjoy it later to my heart's content. The Matrix, Terminator, Die Hard, Street Fighter, Kung Fu Hustle, you name it. You know the trailers they used to show just b... read more

When I was a kid, the first Mortal Kombat was huge when I came out in arcade. Like all the over kids, I thought it was awesome and it is rather surprising that it took me almost 20 years to see the movie version. Amazingly, Paul W. S. Anderson manages to take a script (which he once again didn't have to bother coming up with) and not ruin it completely for the fans of the original idea. I never liked the Mortal Kombat games, they were always too slow and too bulky, but the film is anything but.

With some fairly decent kung fu fights and a pulsating soundtrack, this film is a winner. Fans of... read more

"19.6. Netflix In about the past year, I've become quite a bit more critical on subjects such as sexism and racism, which is why I may seem somewhat humourless these days, which in turn is why I don't enjoy films like Mortal Kombat as much I used to. Don't get me wrong, Mortal Kombat, in its stupidity, is a funny film. But even though I find it funny, I still recognize the sexism in turning the only significant female character from a (physically) strong ass-kicking woman into a helpless damse"

“When I was a kid, the first Mortal Kombat was huge when I came out in arcade. Like all the over kids, I thought it was awesome and it is rather surprising that it took me almost 20 years to see the movie version. When it was released, the video games adaptations were really new and after the abysmal failures of the Super Marios Bros and Street Fighter movies, some wonder if this genre will even make any money. Eventually, this flick was a box-office hit, pretty much single-handheldly launched the genre and it is pretty much one of the reasons why we get nowadays all those dreadful adaptations. Anyway, how was the damned thing after all? To be fair enough, it was quite faithful to the game which was the huge mistake they made with the Street Fighter adaptation but it was still not really go” read more

Once the scene would appear, I would record it with my father's mobile and then enjoy it later to my heart's content. The Matrix, Terminator, Die Hard, Street Fighter, Kung Fu Hustle, you name it. You know the trailers they used to show just before a presentation, with a deep baritone voice narrating? That's how I was introduced to this film, by that voice... and the music in the background.

Anyway, when I was young of course the film was awesome, but now that I've grown up, and matured along the way, I found out that the film starts off quite smartly but descends into the same old, same old - mindless action, funny dialogue” read more

"29.11. Internetin pojat laittoivat minulle linkin Youtube-videoon, jossa venäläismies vetää helikopteria ja laulaa Mortal Kombatin pyöriessä taustalla. Mielsin tämän jonkin korkeamman voiman antamaksi merkiksi, joten etsin vanhan VHS:n hyllystä, sillä eihän lapsuudensuosikkia voi katsoa kuin cropattuna ja aivan hirvittävällä kuvanlaadulla. Elokuvan ensemble cast (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Christopher Lambert, Linden Ashby, Trevor Goddard) innostuttaa aluksi aivan täysillä. Harmitta"

"Katsottu 4.11.2012 Olin 16 ja Mortal Kombat VHS oli kovassa kierrossa. Kasetti kiersi kaikki kaverit läpi niin monesti, ettei kukaan enää muistanut kenen kasettia oikein lainattiin. Pari kaveria omisti Nintendon, minkä seurauksena Mortal Kombat-matseja pelattiin päivin ja öin koulupäivistä huolimatta. Nostalgia on tunteista armollisin, jopa 17 vuoden jälkeen. Mortal Kombat on perseestä. Se on kuin pallinaamojen ja yhden palliotsan kokoontuminen keskellä paskaa tehosteviidakkoa koros"
