I like a serial killer movie from time to time but there are never among my favorite movies (for example, I think that The Silence of the Lambs and Seven are rather overrated). However, there are exceptions... This movie is one of them. It is a really chilling story without chases, explosions or big shootings. It really focuses on the main character and it is rather fascinating. Theron really dese... read more
The performance's in this film delivered by Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci are nothing short of amazing. Theron goes under a dramatic transformation to become Aileen Wuornos. The beautiful starlet is hardly recognizable. I don't want to give any spoilers. But I can say without hesitation, watch this film.
Description:Critics have universally praised Charlize Theron's performance in Monster, and the praise, for once, is astonishingly deserved. The gorgeous star of The Italian Job and The Cider House Rules vanishes into the character of Aileen Wuornos, a real-life serial killer and prostitute who murdered at least seven men in Florida. Monster traceCritics have universally praised Charlize Theron's performance in Monster, and the praise, for once, is astonishingly deserved. The gorgeous star of The Italian Job and The Cider House Rules vanishes into the character of Aileen Wuornos, a real-life serial killer and prostitute who murdered at least seven men in Florida. Monster traces her relationship with a young woman named Selby (Christina Ricci, The Ice Storm, Buffalo 66), which intertwines with Wuornos's murder spree. This remarkable movie finds compassion for Wuornos but unflinchingly faces her brutal crimes; Theron expresses this woman's horrific life history without softening her terrifying, dead-eyed stare. This is a gripping, devastating performance, a physical and psychological transformation comparable to Robert DeNiro's in Raging Bull. The movie's moral and emotional complexity wouldn't succeed without this searing performance--but succeed it does, and it will stick with you for some time afterward. --Bret Fetzer... (more)(less)

Charlize Theron on melkein tunnistamattomassa kunnossa prostituoituna likaisimmalla tiellä.
"Watched: 29.3.

By this time I'd forgotten anything I might have heard about Monster when it came out 10 years ago. All I really knew going into it was that it was a "heavier" film and that it featured Charlize Theron in a character that required true transformation.
What I did not know about Monster is that it is, A: based on real people and real events and, B: that it is a complete and total fucking downer of a movie.
Monster really is about as grim as well-known English-language movies get. In fact, I'm "

"Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuornos (an American serial killer who killed seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990, claiming they raped or attempted to rape her while she was working as a prostitute. She was convicted and sentenced to death for six of the murders and executed by lethal injection on October 9, 2002)
