Since I have seen all the movies directed by Tim Burton, of course, I had to see his last directing effort as well but I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Well, to be honest, it wasn’t really good, I’m afraid. I mean, sure, the whole thing looked really nice, as usual with this director, but I really had a hard time to care about this story. Basically, some of it was not bad, there were a c... read more

By Tim Burton’s own admission his films are never strongest from a narrative perspective, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is dense in unraveling its mythology and nearly elliptical in story focus. It doesn’t matter much though, because Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children gives Burton a chance to bring to life a merry band of misfits and oft-kilter imagery, his two s... read more

Cons:

* It can be a little corny at times as it's sort of directed towards kids.

*Not enough Eva Green or Samuel L. Jackson in my opinion.

Notes:

*It reminds me of a love child of X-Men, Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson.

*Jane Goldman wrote two of the X-Men movies so it makes sense that it is similar.

*It's based off a ” read more

Tim Burton Films - Ranked and Why (18 movies items)

" At times, this is everything I want from a Tim Burton film. A visually impressive film that delves into the macabre and strange. There's some really creepy imagery present here and Burton certainly knows how to have fun with that. A lot of the elements here are straight in his wheelhouse, with even stop-motion (done with CGI though) looking skeletons appearing. There's a lot of fun here, but as an overall experience, I found it to be one of the more disappointing Burton films. The problem is t"

" It's Tim Burton, whatever it means. The story - based on a YA fantasy novel - is meaningful: it's about embracing and valuing diversity. But as a movie, it doesn't add any originality in Burton's works."

Diurnalis 2017: Movies (39 movies items)

"Awful. It's not as bad as some other movies I watched in the past, but it's very far from average in a bad way. The plot is weird, rushed, the main actor is not talented at all and the ending is just horrible. It makes not sense at all. It's cringe worthy. I was shouting at the screen the whole time pointing out the inumerous plot holes and other dumb story choices."

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

“By Tim Burton’s own admission his films are never strongest from a narrative perspective, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is dense in unraveling its mythology and nearly elliptical in story focus. It doesn’t matter much though, because Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children gives Burton a chance to bring to life a merry band of misfits and oft-kilter imagery, his two strongest points. Although a nagging sense of 20th Century Fox trying to find a replacement franchise for X-Men lingers throughout, and a sense of Burton’s nightmarish whimsy hovering on autopilot has lingered since Alice in Wonderland (although, Frankenweenie was a glorious high-point).   I’m not entirely sure what the plot involved in Miss Peregrine is exactly, there’s a home for mutants” read more
