Easily my favorite documentary of all time. The kid did a great job in this movie. Explaining all the sub genres, and just exploring every aspect of metal, the good and the bad side. Rather you like metal or not the movie is very well made and is just plan awesome
It's very fun -being a metal fan myself- to watch, but from the anthropologist point of view the makers claim to come from, it's pretty shallow. The answers to questions the maker asks himself are pretty obvious from the get go.
It's great that someone made a documentary about heavy metal from an anthropological perspective, but in my opinion it fails to go deep enough. It seems more like a... read more

Pituuteensa nähden varsin kattava dokkari. Kiertää hienosti Metallican, Megadethin ynnä muiden kaikkien tuntemien orkesterien tarinan ja keskittyy edes vähän vähemmän tunnettujen orkesterien merkitykseen metallin historiassa. Pitää hyvin otteessaan vailla mitään turhaa. Vähän liian kiireinen kerronta on kylläkin, materiaalia olisi varmasti ollut huomattavasti pidemmäksikin elokuvaksi."

It's great that someone made a documentary about heavy metal from an anthropological perspective, but in my opinion it fails to go deep enough. It seems more like an excuse to arrive at conclusions that were on the maker's mind prior to starting the "investigation".
Again, it's fun to watch, but don't expect any real social science to appear.” read more

"From who invented heavy metal to the church burnings in Norway, director, narrator and metalhead Sam Dunn traces the roots of the heaviest form of music from a historical standpoint and from a fan’s. With interviews from Tommy Iommi, Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Lemmy, and Rob Zombie, it’s the ultimate metal manifesto."
