Russel Crowe is captain of a British frigate, and the plot revolves in his determination to pursue and destroy one of France's most powerful warship, which has faster speed and greater firepower than his ship. He chas... read more

I managed to find a couple of hours to squeeze this film in last night and I wasn't really disappointed. I have something of a soft spot for naval stories. I do think this film could have offered more though.

Something of an annoyance was that Russel Crowe's character was utterly infallible throughout the whole film. That meant the typical hollywood happy ending was inevitable and p... read more

It’s a shame that, in the last 20 years, Peter Weir has released only 2 movies and, since the guy is already more than 70 years old, he won’t make many more movies, I’m afraid. If I recall it correctly, I actually saw this one in the movie theater when it was released with my father. Personally, I’m a huge fan of ‘The Truman Show’ and, after 5 long years, I was really eager to see Pete... read more

35 From 3: My Favorite Films From 2003 (35 movies items)

"It seems like these days, if the theatres aren't full of a slew of GCI-infested blockbusters, then they're trying to cash in on a flock of usually over-top horrors and/or comedies. Or they're trying to promote their every-day down-to-earth dramas. And even if a buncha these flicks turn out to be pretty good, I usually start to feel the urge for something outside the realm of what is currently considered the standard genres that seem to occupy the majority of today's silverscreens. "Poikain seikkailua päivitettynä millenumille. Ihan kivaa ja näin, mutta ei Russell ole kuitenkaan Lancaster tahi Flynn. Ja tämä oli harvinaisesti myös filmi, jossa Paul Bettany ei albiinoineen häirinnyt."
