The story is set in 1805, and Napoleon and his French empire have Europe in their grasp, and bloody and deadly battles occur between the British Royal Navy and Napoleon's warships. Russel Crowe is captain of a British frigate, and the plot revolves in his determination to pursue and destroy one of France's most powerful warship, which has faster speed and greater firepower than his ship. He chas... read more

I managed to find a couple of hours to squeeze this film in last night and I wasn't really disappointed. I have something of a soft spot for naval stories. I do think this film could have offered more though.

Something of an annoyance was that Russel Crowe's character was utterly infallible throughout the whole film. That meant the typical hollywood happy ending was inevitable and p... read more

Russell Crowe is exceptional and plays a great captain and you can always count on him to be a leader. From this film, if I was on the boat, in that crew, with him as a captain..I'd have no worries.
Paul Bettany is always the man. Especially when it comes to supporting roles. The bond between him and Crowe is intriguing and awesome. You really feel for the hardships and sacrifices the crew... read more

“Master and Commander is based on the Patrick O' Brian, The Aubrey–Maturin series. This movie is a brilliant masterpiece, the story rich the action stunning the acting brilliant. The story follows Capt. Jack Aubrey as he sent on a mission to capture or destroy French privateer Acheron. This is a brilliant cat and mouse game all set on the high seas, with some really stunning scenery. The fight scenes between the two ships are out of this world, this is a really good movie to watch. Russell Crowe plays Jack, and Paul Bettany plays his best friend Stephen Maturin the ships doctor. Peter Weir brought not only the story to life with his brilliant Directing, but he also brought their friendship to life and their love of music. The music in the movie is quite good as well, if you like to escape” read more
