Sometimes, you keep hearing about a movie, everyone seems to agree that it is a great classic, you get some high hopes, expecting to watch something truly amazing. But then, you watch the damned thing and, as it turns out, you don’t connect at all with the movie. Well, unfortunately, that’s what happened for me with this movie. I mean, sure, I thought it was not bad but I seriously couldn’t ... read more

I was a big fan of the TV series, & often watched it in syndication during my tweener years, when my tastes in entertainment were just beginning to experience their own particular brand of puberty. I had heard that there was a movie from which this series was based off of, but never watched it until just a few years ago. After getting so used to the TV version, it took me a bit before I started be... read more

Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. That's where two young surgeons, Duke and Hawkeye end up during the Korean War. There is no plot as such, but instead a series of episodes during which they put their stamp on the camp including a football game against a larger unit with thousands riding on it, a trip to Tokyo to operate on a congressman's son and play a little golf, and finding out if the head nurse is a natural blonde.

I watched it at the beginning of this year and had the same issues with it, so I doubt your experience would differ now. ;)

A classic

“Sometimes, you keep hearing about a movie, everyone seems to agree that it is a great classic, you get some high hopes, expecting to watch something truly amazing. But then, you watch the damned thing and, as it turns out, you don’t connect at all with the movie. Well, unfortunately, that’s what happened for me with this movie. I mean, sure, I thought it was not bad but I seriously couldn’t see what was so amazing about it. First of all, I have to admit that I was very young when I watched it and, maybe, if I would re-watch it nowadays, I would be blown away but I have my doubts. Basically, the main issue I had is that I never really cared for the episodic structure. Sure, I don’t necessarily need a plot but all these little stories were rather half-baked. On top of that, many peop” read more

In the Episodes of... M*A*S*H (29 tv items)

"M*A*S*HDirected by: Robert AltmanWritten by: Richard Hooker & Ring Lardner Jr.I saw Alan Alda in the role of Hawkeye before seeing the film, and really didn't warm to Donald Sutherland at all. That said, the first half of the film was enjoyable, but then it seemed to lose its way, becoming almost farcical. The shower scene seemed very cruel, and then the football game seemed to suggest that Margaret was nothing more than an airhead, which is far from the truth. Unlikeable yes (perhaps more in "

Movies the giraffe watched in 2015: January (23 movies items)

"First viewing - Jan. 21st Growing up my parents used to watch the M*A*S*H tv show, and it never really grabbed my attention for more than a few fleeting minutes. Perhaps if I were to watch it now I'd get something out of it, but that remains to be seen. Now that I've watched the movie by the same name I understand why it translated into a long-running TV show. The way the film is structured it may as well have been televised, as the plot (such as it is) is episodic. Which is fine for a show but"
