"1.4. 2011 Gary Cooper plays Link Jones, a respected man, who is forced to face the worst thing that could be imagined: his own past. He is on a train on his way to work when suddenly a bunch of scoundrels tries to rob the train. Link manages to escape from the robbers along with a man and a woman he met on the train. They walk to a nearest house where the robbers are waiting for them and it appears they are Link's old outlaw band. One of Anthony Mann's greatest films shows how challenging it is"

"Jan.23 In one of the darkest Westerns, Gary Cooper broods, stares wearily and seemed to have lost an appetite for women even in the company of the statuesque Julie London. “Man of the West” is the Western version of “The Petrified Forest,” there is fear and over-all unfriendliness in the air. Retribution and revenge waits in the wings. Cooper is excellent and this is one of the finer examples of character acting I have seen out of Lee J. Cobb. "
