memories in blocks

Your life is like "blocks" in which your memories are on, the feelings of solitude are filled with sadness as you pass through those blocks, because the past always seems better than future.

It is such a lovely movie, as the old man's memories were passing I felt some kind of nostalgic sad feeling, but at the same time I felt comfortable.
Kunio Kato was able to put so many fe... read more

Movie Reviews (1601-1650) (50 movies items)

" My four-year-old love this untraditionally drawn movie. It's about a flooded world where and old man lives in the last house standing where he revisits his memories underwater. It doesn't give any answers to how the world turned up like it did but instead show us a tapestry of feelings and sentimental moments. It has a unique atmosphere and works good for both old and young viewers so it is not surprising to see that it won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short that year."

100 Greatest Animated Shorts (100 movies items)

"Japanese animator Kunio Kato’s ‘The House of Small Cubes’ is an exquisite animation which deservedly won the Oscar for Best Animated Short. Vividly drawn in bold yellows and subtle blues, this modern classic tell the metaphorical story of an elderly man who lives in a land where the water level keeps rising. Each time it does, he is forced to build a new storey on his house, and with each story the space gets a little smaller. When he accidentally drops his favourite pipe into the flooded "
