"Lucy" (2014)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

This was HORRIBLE!
Right from when I first heard the premise, I couldn't help but laugh at how downright stupid it sounded! Look, until right now, I didn't realise the "10% of the brain" thing was an actual misconception; I always thought it was just an expression meaning that hardly anyone makes full use of their talents. But regardless, it's still a bullsh... read more

Luc Besson is a pretty good writer and has made a few good movies himself. The story looked rather interesting when I saw the trailer. So I hope that not all the good stuff was spoiled. There is some pretty cool imagery put in throughout the movie that is interesting to the story as a whole. I think the concept and idea is really neat. I wonder though how the world really would be if we had full c... read more

BIZARRE! Don't loose your time with this crap. It may pretend to be a good movie until the first hour, but it turns into madness and nonsense through the last part. If you have a piece of brain inside your head, you may find yourself ashamed of loosing so much time in front a complete waste of money. This is so nasty shit of a movie that made me come back to listal after almost 1 year away JUST to... read more

From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history. Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson in Lucy, an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.

A Distaff Limitless

“So, give Luc Besson a rough outline for a plot, a lot of money and loads of armaments and - PRESTO - you have a hit, right?  Sometimes,...  In Lucy, what started out as a distaff remake of the far-superior "Limitless," quickly devolves into blood, gore, chase scenes, cool SFX, more chase scenes, a plot(?) and finally ends in an incredulous denouement.  Hell, at one point, Morgan Freeman LITERALLY phones his part in!  At least the end of "Limitless" left the story line open for more (hint, hint, CBS,...you could have handled the series better, but I digress).  Lucy ended a whimper, or the beep of an incoming text message.

Movies the giraffe watched in 2017: July (33 movies items)

"First viewing - July 31st I ended the month with Lucy, which I picked up from the library with three other movies that will get watched over the weekend. I originally ignored it, but seeing it come up a handful of times in press for Valerian made me curious to give it a shot. The film starts out very strongly, and the first hour or so flew by and kept me very entertained. Once she gets to the university the film kind of loses momentum though, a fact not helped by everything devolving into a cli"

A Complete Review of Luc Besson's work (36 movies items)

" Cast : Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman What was it about? A woman, accidentally caught in a dark deal, turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic. My two cents: Eventually, I thought it was not bad at all. To be honest, it may have had to do with the fact that I was seriously disappointed by most of Luc Besson's recent directing efforts (especially ‘The Family’ and ‘Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec’). Still"

An average movie

“Since this movie was the last one directed by Luc Besson that I hadn’t watch yet, I was quite eager to check it out. Eventually, I thought it was not bad at all. To be honest, it may have had to do with the fact that I was seriously disappointed by most of his recent directing efforts (especially ‘The Family’ and ‘Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec’). Still, I loved the concept of this girl using  all her brain capacity, even if it had been done before in ‘Limitless’ for example, and I liked the fact that Besson tried to pull a  ‘2001’ ending on the viewers. Scarlett Johansson was also pretty good in this and you wonder why, at this point, Marvel is still not planning a standalone ‘Black Widow’ film since it seems to be definitely a no-brainer. Still, ” read more
