The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is Dario Argento's first film and despite being a very tame giallo, all the elements that make Argento who he is are all here at such an early stage. POV shots and exquisite framing, black leather glove-clad killer, ordinary Joe caught up in a mystery, etc. That being said, the style and violence are toned down considerably compared to his later work. Tony Musante... read more

" Dario Argento's directorial debut is an effective little crime thriller that has great visual touches. A sick moment is when a painter locks himself inside a house and eat cats. The violence is also refreshingly restrained with gore and feels almost like the next step from Hitchcock if he had decided to go the Italian route with his films. The set piece with the hero trapped between two glass doors is fantastic. "

"October 11 This is a really solid movie, but it is far from perfect. For starters, it is Dario Argento's first movie and it does show at times. The pacing is a little off at times and it does feel slow sometimes. That and I can't say I was really impressed with the twist ending. Even though I wasn't expecting it, I've seen the exact twist done better before and I feel like it was more shocking back then. For all its shortcomings though, it is a simplistic film that is very suspenseful, well-a"

"5/8 Very straightforward, nothing fancy. Tony Musante sees a murder attempt of a woman and starts to investigate the case himself, while also helping the police with his finds. He himself is being targeted by the killer along the way. The score was by Morricone, but I didn't took much notice on it, and can't remember hearing anything interesting. There wasn't many moments I would single out, but that scene where Musante is running away and hiding from the contract killer was kind of good. Love "
