"Local hero was somehow a little bit strange once in a while. I can't quite say why, maybe it was its humour. But nevertheless it captivated me, the characters were persuasive and sympathetic.
When the main character didn't want to leave the little town in Scotland to go back home to Houston, Texas you kind of felt the same.
It was a nice little movie where things never happened as you thought them to happen and apart from that there didn't happen too much, which you could count to a lot of a"

"Local Hero is one of those movies you just don't get to hear about. It doesn't fit into the neat little categories that Hollywood likes to aim it's features toward. An interesting story about a young man sent to a remote village to seal a business deal, and an old man trying to reclaim his life. Worth a watch, if you like movies that are a little different, that aren't afraid to take time to tell a story.

"4 - "Going Home: Theme Of The Local Hero" by Mark Knopfler
"I'm still depressed over a recent interview where Bill Forsyth declared he was through with films. No one casts a spell like Forsyth, the Scottish realist director with the sly sense of humor you can't get enough of. Every character shines, every detail sparkles, and the whole movie is set to the elegant score of Mark Knopfler. You cannot imagine the film without this music, nor the music without this film."

"One of my first experiences with British (overseas) wit. Love Peter Reigert in this, and love the loony locals. The ending is sharply bittersweet. To this day, I drive by a local street named Aberdeen and, every time, try to say it like the poor schlub in HERO who's in love with the mermaid."
