"The death of a partner
This is what makes it personal for our hero. The death of the partner who only had three days till retirement. There's a much bigger reason to hate the bad guys now that they crossed the line of hurting loved ones. If they were criminals with nothing more to them, who gives a hoot? Go and get rich or whatever it is you wanna do.
Clint Eastwood in particular has been through this so often it's no wonder he's always such a grump. And don't even get me started on James Bond."
"This is an excellent non-stop action thriller movie about two dirty cops on the trail of a counterfeiter. Under appreciated by the critics when it was first released who probably didn't understand the story properly. A must watch for fans of 80's movies."
"To Live and Die in L.A. is undeniably very well made - from the performances to the more technical aspects - but the bottom line is, it's just not all that compelling.

All I can say is fucking WOW! As if the title isn't epic enough, William Friedkin (director of The Exorcist and French Connection) packs a punch with this Californian crime drama about a ball busting cop who will do anything to get his man, a counterfeiter played excellently by Willem Dafoe.
On the surface, it looks like a really long episode of Miami Vice, what with all the 80s cheese and sleaze. When the neon green credits flashed onto the screen, I was like great! Just what I need, tac"

"19. The Counterfeit Montage
In 'The French Connection' director William Friedkin gave us an intriguing glimpse into police work with the scene where Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider tore down an entire car to find a few bags of drugs.
This time around, in 'To Live and Die in L.A.' it was the thug's turn. Friedkin basically turned counterfeiting money into an action scene with its brisk editing and Wang Chung's fast, energetic instrumentals. It's like something you'd expect from Hot Fuzz.
