Review of Lincoln

There's just so much to love about Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. It's moving, it's well acted, well made, etc. In fact, it's one of the best films that 2012 has to offer. Effectively capturing the character of Lincoln, and all the surround him, this is an absolute must-see.

Lincoln mainly revolves around the 13th amendment and Lincoln's work to get it voted in. Only the final months ... read more

Just by judging the title alone, Lincoln became a potentially huge project that required a substantial amount of sophisticated figures in front and behind the camera. The legendary Steven Spielberg, arguably the most iconic filmmaker in the history of cinema, takes charge of directing another war drama, after Schindler’s List in 1993, that deals with complex human emotions on a grand scale. Also... read more

I found myself very underwhelmed by "Lincoln." Perhaps I simply heard too much hype before watching it, or maybe it just had too much quaint Americana for my tastes. All I know is that the movie didn't teach me anything I didn't already know, and half the subject matter (his struggles with his wife and son) seemed to be there only to kill time. Also, a lot of the courtroom drama fell flat, in my o... read more

Movies I Like (That I Might Not Watch Again) (9 movies items)

"Director: Steven Spielberg Plot: As the Civil War nears its end, President Abraham Lincoln clashes with members of his cabinet over the issue of abolishing slavery. We've reached the second item on the list that I do own, though strictly because of the Spielberg connection. It's a very talky film and it's not overly entertaining, but the acting is so good and the production values so solid that you have to admire it."

Steven Spielberg Films - Ranked and Why (21 movies items)

" Daniel Day-Lewis does completely vanish into the role of Abraham Lincoln. That's a reason enough to see this Steven Spielberg film. A film that shouldn't be called Lincoln, but The 13th Amendment or something instead. That's not to say that Lincoln ain't a fascinating picture. Because it is. Carried by several strong performances, Lincoln offers itself as a solid history lesson and a film that's generally well-made all over. But Lincoln can't help but feel a bit overlong and the ending is comp"

One of the best movies 2012 has to offer

“It seems that 2014 has not much to offer in terms of movies. 2013 had some great movies, 2012 had great movies and so on. 'Lincoln' is one of the best movies 2012 has to offer!

Abraham Lincoln is played by Daniel Day-Lewis in his third Oscar winning performance. Day-Lewis does a fantastic job as Lincoln. The rest of the cast are also very good. The plot about killing slavery is well told, the visual style looks great and Steven Spielberg's direction is brilliant! Great movie!” read more

The part I liked the most was when one of Lincoln's cabinet said "You're going to tell another story, aren't you? I don't think I can listen to another one of your stories right now!"

Me : "Right there with ya, dude."

Steven Spielberg hasn't "wowed" me since the 90s when he made Jurassic Park, Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. Between this and Indiana ” read more

The legendary Steven Spielberg, arguably the most iconic filmmaker in the history of cinema, takes charge of directing another war drama, after Schindler’s List in 1993, that deals with complex human emotions on a grand scale. Also, Daniel Day-Lewis, arguably the greatest living actor, makes a triumphant return to the screen to play Abraham Lincoln. Nevertheless, considering that Lincoln is an extremely large film with a lot of history behind it, it works with outstanding performances from the ensemble cast and superb direction from Spielberg but occasionally had a few issues with narrative structure.

A very good movie

“As usual with Steven Spielberg, I was a little bit skeptical with this movie. I mean, would it be like 'Schindler's list' or more like 'War Horse'?. Fortunately, I must admit that it was almost as good as 'Schindler's list'. Indeed, I thought it was a fascinating historical picture but not only was it fascinating from a historical point of view, it was also a spellbinding policitical intrigue. Indeed, to see Lincoln managing to get all the necessary votes was quite something, reaching out to his opponents, blackmailing, bribing, was quite something and a great lesson in Political strategy. Of course, as usual, Daniel Day-Lewis was just amazing and the only thing that stands in his way to win the Academy Award is the fact that he has already won two of those. The other actor who also comple” read more

Lincoln

“A cursory surface glance on any particular subject is usually not a bright idea. And with Lincoln, it’s downright idiotic to do so. When you think of the subject matter and the director, what immediately pops into your head is a plausible film in which sentimentality overrides all else and there’s an overly mannered and thunderous performance, more to do with imagined iconography than what real research about his character would turn up, from a leading man who is notoriously choosy in his roles.

But Lincoln is none of these things. Instead, it is a film about politics in action, about public and private faces and how they can intersect or clash, and it is glorious done from top to bottom. Steven Spielberg hasn’t made a film this good since AI: Artificial Intelligence. War H” read more

“Even I had difficulties to catch with Day Lewis pace, and felt dialogues kind of heavy,Spielberg succeeds in depicting the stress of Lincon with a war in the courtyard, an opinionated wife, a death child, an stubborn one,and the odds against his main political claim. The dramatizing of the one by one voing in congress, is ok and I like the nice touch of Lee Jones showing the text to his black woman.” read more

Another career high for Spielberg

“"I am the president of the United States of America, clothed in immense power! You will procure me those votes!"

A restrained historical drama, 2012's Lincoln is a motion picture that reawakens old-school Steven Spielberg, finding the veteran filmmaker treading similar thematic ground to 1997's Amistad. The movie was actually a long time coming, with Spielberg expressing interest in an Abraham Lincoln feature in the 1990s and with DreamWorks securing the rights to Doris Kearns Goodwin's popular novel Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln in 2001. Working from a script by Munich screenwriter and acclaimed playwright Tony Kushner, Lincoln is a refreshing piece of work, one of the most accessible yet sophisticated political films in recent memory. It's an intimate ” read more
