The story of "Liang Shan Bo Yu Zhu Ying Tai" is a folk legend set during the period of the Jin Dynasty. There had been various film and TV renditions but the Shaw Brothers' version, directed by Li Han Hsiang, is the only adaptation that remains popular to this day. It was a hit in Taiwan, breaking records at the box office in 1963, becoming the longest grossing film at that time[1]. Tuli tehtyä uusi aluevaltaus elokuvaharrastuksessa, eli katsoin ensimmäisen huangmei ooppera -elokuvani. Ja tämähän on käsittääkseni niitä genren kulmakiviä.
Ja kyllähän se kolahti. Kaikki kun tuntuu olevan niin kaunista: laulettu mandariinikiina, musiikki, lavasteet, naisnäyttelijät ja tietysti itse tarina. En kuitenkaan usko, että ko. genre uppoaa samalla tavalla jokaiseen katsojaan, mutta tällä klassikolla sitä on hyvä kokeilla."
