Leviathan is the underwater version of "The Thing/The Blob" where Peter Weller and his crew battle battle a mutagen 16,000 feet below the Atlantic. Its also got a little bit of an "Alien" feel as well with the whole futuristic theme. Not bad, but not great.

Your Average Monster Movie

I would have to say that after watching it as a refresher it is an ok movie. I watch a ton of monster movies, they are one of my favorite genres, but this one is a little odd. It does follow the thing, but then again it has this whole underwater feel. It is really not that hard to impress me with a movie, but this one fell just a little short of a perfect score. It was pretty much a monster that c... read more

Films and the critics who hate them (741 movies items)

"The latter half of the film is one long feeding frenzy, guided by a familiar horror-film principle: survival of the best-looking. - Janet Maslin, New York Times Leviathan is intermittently interesting, but it's a bad sign that the movie starts losing its punch when the monster shows up. - Richard Harrington, Washington Post"

My Movie Diary: 2/13 (status: closed) (65 movies items)

"2/16/13 Rewatch I decided to take a small break from my classic movie watch to revisit an old favorite of mine. The 80's saw a number of movies made with ensemble casts of B+ actors and Leviathan was one of these. It was also part of a wave of sea monster films that were released all near the same time. Peter Weller is always great, as are Richard Crenna and Amanda Pays. Of course, this little production is fast and loose and, just a bit, tongue-in-cheek. It's highly enjoyable, easy to follo"

Movie Journal - March 2012 (22 movies items)

"Date: 2. March -First Time Watch- A really cool sci-fi/horror flick with some nasty as hell sequences of body-horror. The characters or the movie itself isn't really that memorable, but it's worth a watch. "
