Herzogin elokuvassa ulkoavaruuden olion näkökulmasta seuraamme kun amerikkalaiset valtaavat ja samalla onnistuvat polttamaan Kuwaitin öljylähteitä. Elokuvassa näytetään pari siviiliäkin kertomassa hyökkäyksen aikana taphtuneista väkivaltaisuuksista. Pääasiassa elokuva silti koostuu loputtomien palavien ölylähteiden ja niiden saasteiden kuvaamisesta samalla kun työntekijät yrittävät sammuttaa niitä.
