Goofy. Even when they were making this movie, all the involved parties had to have known it was goofy. The submarines are cool, the women hot and the monsters...I like to think of them as a charming homage to Sid & Marty Kroft.

Asian Movies I've Watched Part 6 (200 movies items)

"A rather bland and boring sci-fi tale which uses a number of American actors such as Cesar Romero (Joker of TV Batman fame). The movie got off to a good start but it drags during the middle section before picking up again in the final third. The monster scenes (flying lion and giant rats!) and human characters were dull. It does have some action in it, but it is just a far departure from the usual Toho stuff. It just doesn't have the zest, originality, plot lines, and inspiration of a Toho kaiju"

It moves at a good clip, but there are a smattering of dry spots (unless it's just me). There's two versions English and Japanese; the Japanese actors did the dialogue phonetically so there's no crappy English dub to endure. The English version is also several minutes shorter than the Japanese version, perhaps to the movie's benefit.

A goofy good time on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon/night.” read more
