This is a highly ambitious, serious, and explorative film that in single scenes engages its material with a larger sense of wonder and reverence than the entirety of Mel Gibson's exploitive film ever could. In a disclaimer at the very onset of the film, Scorsese warns audiences that his film is not intended to be a retelling of one or any of the four gospels, but rather an artistic exploration of ... read more

I had high expectations for this film because it is a film from Martin Scorsese and it is one of the few Scorsese films that is a non-crime film and has drama within it. This film disappointed me quite a bit. The best things about this film were that it did show how horrifying Jesus' crucifixion really was to endure and to witness. The disappointments for me were that it dragged on a bit and went ... read more

Wow! What a controversial film. I find it quite enlightening, and very spiritual. Most likely my favorite film based on Jesus Christ.

My Movie Ideas (12 movies items)

"The Lost Light Drama In a near-future where more and more people are becoming atheists, an devout Christian named Alex Novarro , tries to convince others - and himself - that there really is a God. How I got the idea: Like I said before, I'm an atheist, but sometimes I wonder why people need religion. I'm not talking about ordinary people; I'm talking about assholes like Pat Robertson or Kim Davis. Why would assholes like those two want to believe in God? The main character is an anti-hero. H"

A good movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. Apparently, with 'Gangs of New York', it was another pet-project that Martin Scorsese struggled to make since the 70's. Anyway, even though I'm an atheist, I always thought that religion was and still is a fascinating subject so I was really eager to check this movie, despite its rather controversial reputation. Eventually, I thought it was a really interesting movie and I  especially enjoyed the fact that Jesus was portrayed as a human-being for once. At the end of the day, in spite of a few controversial things, it remains actually pretty faithful and, if you are rather open-minded about christianity and religion in general, there won’t be anything really shocking about th” read more

"September 19 "If I was a woodcutter, I'd cut. If I was a fire, I'd burn. But I'm a heart and I love. That's the only thing I can do." Even though I'm not religious, I really loved this movie and I wasn't expecting it to be this good. Willem Dafoe is amazing as the role of Jesus and everyone else is casted well too. The way they tell his story is very well-done and I loved every minute of this movie. I think that the controversy surrounding it wasn't deserved at all as it portrays Jesus in a "

"04.04.2015 Mitä jos Jeesus olikin vain ihminen? Pelkkä ajatuskin saa uskovaiset suuttumaan ja pommittamaan leffateattereita. Tässä oli myös David Bowie Pontius Pilatuksena. Willem Dafoe ei muuten näytä yhtään Jesuukselta. En tosin tiedä, miltä Jeesus oikeasti näytti."

25 From 88: My Favorite Films Of 1988 (25 movies items)

" The director of some of the best mobster movies ever made moves from the tales of the Mafia to the scriptures of the Messiah. Martin Scorsese steps outside of the Cosa Nostra and it's sins and instead, decides to explore the temptations that may come from the most famous of Divine Inspired prophets whose ultimate destiny was to die for our sins. Controversial for it's depiction of The Christ as a fallible human being, for me, I found this film so far to be the best version of "The Greatest St"

My temptation is for all who can to see this movie

“Willem Dafoe plays Jesus in a movie about Jesus' crucifixion. This movie has the right title! This movie covers the last temptation of Christ!

My temptation is for all who can to see this movie! (should be fine for mature teens 13 and up) 'The Last Temptation of Christ' is something that you'll need to watch all off to understand the ending.

Spoiler alert: This is a big spoiler! Go to the next paragraph if you don't want to know what happens or unless you've seen the movie;

When Jesus (Dafoe) is on the cross, he is tempted by a young girl who claims to be his guardian angel (Juliette Caton) and she takes him down from the cross” read more

I Recommend...(The Short List) (80 movies items)

" Biblical drama. Directed by Martin Scorsese. Stars Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel. Cameos by Harry Dean Stanton, Andre Gregory and David Bowie. Soundtrack by Peter Gabriel. It sounds like a made up movie. All of those people in a Jesus movie. It's crazy, but it's the best Jesus movie (Life of Brian aside) ever made. It was very controversial when it was released for very stupid reasons. Most Jesus movies focus on the divinity of Jesus or put a lot of emphasis on his sacrifice. Last Temptation "
