Description

Queen Latifah is absolutely delightful in Wayne Wang's romantic comedy, LAST HOLIDAY. Latifah stars as Georgia Byrd, a reserved plus-sized woman who lives a dreary, ordinary life in pre-Katrina New Orleans, where she dreams of an elegant existence filled with fancy food, stylish clothing, and high-society parties. But she spends most of her evening ... (more)

I recently borrowed "Last Holiday" starring Queen Latifah from my local library. I had remembered seeing the previews for the movie when it first came out and had also seen a special on Food Network about the movie. I love to cook, which I remembered was a major plot point of this movie, so I figured I would probably like the film. I couldn't have been more right; I loved the movie from the start! Queen Latifah's performance is so genuine that you can't help but to love her character, Georgia Byrd. The idea of an "average, everyday person" dreaming for something bigger in life was very heart-warming. The supporting cast, including LL Cool J and Alicia Witt, were also very endearing and genuine. I don't want to reveal too much of the plot to those who haven't seen the movie, but if...Read more

That said, it was a very cute rendition of that story. The transformation that Queen Latifa's character went through was a joy to watch, and the message to live your life when you have the chance is one that you can never hear too much. The effect that her character had on all of the other characters, too, was amusing to see - especially those characters who really did not like her at first. Slightly unrealistic to think that everyone you meet would end up liking you, but it was a feel good kind of...Read more
