Old guy goes to community college (fine), falls in love with his teacher (fine), and joins a Vespa gang (wtf). It's pretty much never funny, and barely watchable. It's decently cute for a romantic comedy, and Tom Hanks is always likeable, but the movie never quite figures out what the tone of it's comedy should be. Cedric the Entertainer provides a totally different kind of comedy than the cute... read more
“If you open up the big encyclopedia of film cliches and turn to the entry for "forgettable fluff piece" you'll see a picture of a grinning Tom Hanks riding a scooter on the set of Larry Crowne. Julia Roberts might have been pictured too but I forgot.” read more

After losing his job, a middle-aged man reinvents himself by going back to college.
This one has a goofy plot that turned out to be quite entertaining and heart warming. I really enjoyed Wilmer Valderrama and the classmates in Larry's classes. It was pretty funny and ironic to have George Takei and a Star Trek reference. I thought it was an adorable and sweet movie. Also Pam Grier really let herself go which is kind of sad seeing as she was really good looking back in the day."

"Two extremely likable leads at the top of there game, with a topical plot with the makings of a greaat movie. Turned out to be more bland the topical, and audiences don't like bland.
Prediction: $60-80mil.
Actual: $35,608,245."

I reached for this movie, because I was very curious
how did a Tom Hanks as a director. I love him as an actor
and I have to admit that the movie was not bad. Very sad-happy story.
Interesting main character. Although I don't particularly like Julia Roberts,
I think in this movie she was brilliant."
"What Tom Hanks has done with Larry Crowne is give us a well made pleasantly entertaining film that had me smiling throughout. It doesn't aim to be anything grand or spectacular and it doesn't take itself too seriously. It just aims to brighten your day like most Tom Hanks movies of this nature. Hanks himself does solid work in both his performance in the title role and in the director's chair. Julia Roberts whom I'm not always a big fan of in movies does fine work as well. It's just good.

"This too, is better than I thought it would be, Julia Roberts is wonderful! I also loved Tom Hanks (with whom I share my birthday, claim to fame) and I think he did a great job as director too, I know how difficult it is to act in something you're also directing because you have to critique everyone including yourself and I know most actors would rather be told what to do, me included... Loved it, it's incredibly underrated and you should really watch it!

Well, I use that Cicero pic as my main profile pic on LibraryThing, so....
Also, I think it would be awesomely cool to have George Takei as my economics prof...but I think that I already had him for political science.
Also, I think that I'm gonna have to hold a grudge against Julia Roberts from now on. I really don't like girls who talk/act/are like George Takei. ("They call them smartphones, but only dummies use them in my class.") Sry.
And, no, it's not a real sport. But sometimes, performing arts are better anyway. ;)
Also: Tom Hanks is pretty cool, and having him join a gang or something is good times.

This one is a guilty pleasure. It's not a good movie, really. But it's a fun, light-hearted comedy with one of my favorite actors in the lead role and directing. I enjoyed it.
EDIT: I realize now that this movie is really just Tom Hanks living the filmmakers dream, he's doing what all young filmmakers did as kids. He got together with some friends and he made a movie, I'm not going to get mad at him for that.
