"If you don't make it, it's your own damn "vault." That's a bitch slap of truth right there."
The 1970's television series Land of the Lost was ripe for hilarious parody. If a screen adaptation was produced that poked fun at the series and the low-budget, stop-motion genre, a gem would be imminent. However, as it is, 2009's Land of the Lost is just a lightweight adventure in the for... read more
Since this movie was literally destroyed by the critics and since it was a huge flop at the box-office, I wasn't expecting much from it. And indeed, the whole thing was a real mess but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. First of all, I have never seen the TV-show it was based on so I don't know if it was faithfull or not. Basically, I thought it was not consistent enough to make it ... read more

Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, sucked into one and spat back through time. Way back. Now, Marshall has no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world—a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost. Sucked alongside him for the adventure are crack-smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist (Danny McBride) named Will. Chased by T. rex and stalked by painfully slow reptiles known as Sleestaks, Marshall, Will and Holly must rely on their only ally—a primate called Chaka (Jorma Taccone)—to navigate out of the hybrid dimension. Escape from this routine expedition gone awry and they’re heroes. Get stuck, and they’ll be permanent refugees in the Land of the Lost. Based on the classic television series created by Sid & Marty Krofft, Land of the Lost is directed by Brad Silberling and produced by Jimmy Miller and Sid & Marty Krofft.... (more)(less)
"Thought it would actually be good. Also not helping it's box office chances, competing against "The Hangover" on it's opening weekend, and "Up"'s second.
Prediction: $90-100mil.
Actual: $49,438,370.

Confronted with such effects, the actors make not the slightest effort to appear terrified, amazed or sometimes even mildly concerned. Some might consider that a weakness. I suspect it is more of a deliberate choice, and I say I enjoyed it.
Ebert's rating: 3/4
Note: I do have to agree with him on the movie. I personally like it and had fun watching it. I feel like that the original TV show was no different. "
"14.6
Will Ferrell menee jollain kyhäämällään härvelillä eri maailmaan parin seuralaisensa kanssa. Ferrellille tuttuun tapaan elokuva on lähinnä lapsille suunattu, minkä huomaa taas kerran typerästä huumorista, mutta kun ihmeen kaupalla se jaksaa myös vähän isompaakin katsojaa naurattaa."
"14.6, DVD

First of all, I have never seen the TV-show it was based on so I don't know if it was faithfull or not. Basically, I thought it was not consistent enough to make it really worth it. For example, some of the special effects were sometimes actually pretty good but then, some others were really lame and pathetic. Same thing about the jokes, there were a few good ones here and there but also many misfires. And it was the same thing about Will Ferrell, sometime he made me laughed but pretty often, he was just plain obnoxious. On the positive side, I think it was a” read more

"How very silly. It's probably one of the stupidest films I've ever seen. It's just so daft! I liked it, but only because of Anna Freil with her Northern British accent (I talk a bit like her), the sets, the show tunes and Danny McBride's one-liners. I wouldn't watch it again...
