I think I'm going to embark upon a big exploration into the world of Herzog's films, as I am almost completely inexperienced. I saw Rescue Dawn a while back, and I really liked it, but I've been ignoring his films ever since. I was going to watch Aguirre: The Wrath of God, but I found out the copy I have sucks so I'll be finding a new one. In the meantime, I settled upon this gem. I'll be honest w... read more

Description: This moving documentary by director Werner Herzog enters into the world of Fini Strabinger of Bavaria, who is both deaf and blind. Fini has made a career of helping others who are similarly afflicted, teaching them sign language and taking them on field trips to gardens and touching zoos. Told in an unaffected, homey style, this film ... (more)

I was going to watch Aguirre: The Wrath of God, but I found out the copy I have sucks so I'll be finding a new one. In the meantime, I settled upon this gem. I'll be honest with you: I wasn't expecting too much. I thought it would be just an amateur and fairly interesting documentary, but, since some of the people that I follow gave it very good ratings, I thought I'd still give it a go. Boy was I wrong; if this isn't the best documentary I've ever seen than it's definitely right up there. It's a very, very insightful and fascinating yet extremely moving and poignant ” read more

"3.9.2013 Actually while Into the Abyss suffered mainly by being too simple, this proves that being simple is perhaps the only thing you need, when the footage you are shooting is already interesting by itself. The main person is the deaf-blind Fini Straubinger and the movie is mainly about her voyages among other deaf-blinds, while also telling the story of how she herself got both the disvantages later in life. She meets other people and there are moments of some beauty and moments of some nas"

"Ignorance is bliss, they say. But what if you are deaf blind and the only way to experience the world is touching? Land of Silence and Darkness tells the amazing story of Fini Straubinger, deaf blind herself yet she manages to operate as an instructor to other deaf blinds and tries to teach them deaf blind alphabets. She describes deafness not as a complete silence but there is a little ringing sound inside your head. Blindness is not complete darkness, you can see different colors. It's like Go"
