This movie is almost 60 years old but it has aged pretty well. It is definitely a fascinating picture and one of the greasted classics produced in France. There is no CGI, no expansive special effects but still it really succeeds in being completely suspensfull. The directing is just great and Yves Montand delivers a great perfomance. In the South American jungle supplies of nitroglycerin are needed at a remote oil field. The oil company pays four men to deliver the supplies in two trucks. A tense rivalry develops between the two sets of drivers and on the rough remote roads the slightest jolt can result in death.

"06.06. DVD, 1st viewing DIRECTED BY Henri-Georges Clouzot A sort of road movie drama with exceptionally well-made thriller sequences, The Wages of Fear tells a story of two pairs of drivers who take on an extremely dangerous job admission to transport explosives in a difficult terrain. It's great, unpretentious film-making but I have a few nits to pick with its stupid joke of an ending and the absolutely inane and annoying female character (pretty much the only one in the film).
