"You ever hear of Joe Cooper? He's a cop. A detective actually. He's got a little business on the side."
It's been forty years since filmmaker William Friedkin tested the boundaries of what's acceptable in modern cinema with his 1973 horror opus The Exorcist. Friedkin's Killer Joe (finished in 2011 but released last year) finds the director back in this territory, mounting a controv... read more

"11th May, on DVD (later Video on Demand)
I had some issues with the DVD I was watching, but I did watch the rest from a pay-TV service.
The film can go way over the top at times, but in the end I can't find any big faults with Killer Joe. It's just a great ride with brutal imagery and a terrifying and twisted story that has the power to make you laugh and question your sanity and our society in the process."

"The darkest of dark comedy. One of my favorite films in recent years. I understand that the drum-stick scene is controversial, and too much for some. But really, its not THAT bad, and certainly not worth all the fuss with the NC-17 crap. It overshadows a very good film with McConaughey playing a villain for the ages."

February 2013
Director: William Friedkin
To be honest, when people said this was a good film I had my doubts. Matthew McConaughey, ugh. I've always felt this deep disgust towards him. But I got to admit, in this film he was great. Disgusting, yes, but this time that was intentional.
I thought this was an entertaining film, though the storyline didn't interest me that much. Black humor worked, so that gets points from me.

"Killer Joe is an absolutely filthy movie. Very few characters - perhaps none at all - are particularly likable, generously submerged in a tale of greed, decadence, and immorality. Even more, the film as a whole is captured in a very creepy, eerie mood, overtly present in a few particularly unsettling scenes, and heightening as the film progresses. Nonetheless, I can greatly appreciate it for exactly what it is: a rather aesthetically and formally pleasant film about completely unpleasant subject"
"My idea about this film is that it will split audiences into two different sections. The first one will find this film repulsive, while the other half will enjoy it for it's sexual perversion, dark humor and violence. You'll easily find me among the second half. This is exactly the kind of sick, twisted, vile and unpredictable film I'm constantly looking for.
And, who could ever have guessed that Matthew McConaughey could be this brilliant? He's a perfect example of to create a sinister, inte"
