I love Miike but this is definitely a step-up from his usual stuff, in fact I think it's really only equal to AUDITION in his filmography.

"February 21 "Ruling is convenient, but only for rulers. The people must live to serve." This was a good movie. Takashi Miike's direction was good, the action scenes were and the dialogue was also good. One of the reasons I didn't give it a higher rating is because the plot is nothing new, but that's just a minor complaint."

"10/2 Takashi Miike makes a samurai film, and it sure is a Takashi Miike samurai film. Miike's samurais don't fight with any particular amount of honor, they instead dropkick their enemies into submission. They light CGI bulls ablaze and send them running at them, they blow up their CGI horses to fall down a pit. 13 Assassins is filled with stupid, stupid action. That's the good part. The last 45 minutes is basically a huge action scene of polarizing quality, as some material is great, kinetic"

"A man who loves to kill people and destroy lives causes a small group of men to risk their lives to end his. Takashi Miike never disappoints when it comes to violence, gore, and disturbing scenes. This is a great and violent action movie with a good set of Actors/Characters. I highly recommend this movie especially if your a huge Miike fan. "

"U.S. release date: April 29, 2011 Couldn't help but think a lot of Seven Samurai while watching this one, and the main way this one fell short of Seven Samurai for me was the fact that we have far too many characters to establish in order for the audience to care too deeply for any of them. Another 30 minutes to an hour of character development would've made this film PERFECT and marked it for Greatness. That said, it's among the best Asian films I've seen & now ranks for me as Miike's best fi"
