The best summer blockbuster in history...

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."

Though decades have passed since it first entered theatres in 1975, Steven Spielberg's Jaws still assuredly holds its position as one of the greatest thrillers of all time, and remains an important cinematic artefact. Central to the film's brilliance is the riveting suspense, the colourful cast of characters, the humour, the terrific dialogue, the ... read more

Today Great White Sharks are on the endangered species list. We now know that even the humble toaster in your kitchen is far more dangerous to mankind than these wondrous creatures, which have changed so little since prehistoric times. But in 1975 the world was a different place and for anyone watching this movie the sea quickly became a fearful place with sharks the hidden killer of the deep. read more

Steven Spielberg Films - Ranked and Why (21 movies items)

" When Psycho made people a bit hesitating about taking showers, Jaws made people stay completely out of water. Which is why I'm glad that the swimming season is over for now. Jaws is an effective horror film that is superbly told, filmed and acted. A young Steven Spielberg really established himself as a director with this film, and he did prove that very often, less is more. One of the many genius things about Jaws is that they rarely show the shark. Certainly, it was mainly because they had so"

Top 5 Shark Movies (5 movies items)

" You cannot expect this list to feature anything except Jaws at number one. That was a given. All these years on, Steven Spielberg's adventure thriller remains timeless, exciting and entertaining. The shark still looks kinda fake, but there's genuine tension here, and the shark attacks are incredibly vicious for a PG movie... "

A classic

“It is obviously the first masterpiece directed by Steven Spielberg and also a huge milestone in motion picture. I saw it again recently and even though it is almost 40(!) years old, it is still quite amazing and completely entertaining. We all know the story by now, Spielberg didn't have such a huge budget back then but he still managed to make one of the most thrilling flicks ever made. Indeed, because the budget was so small, the shark really looked cheap and just plain terrible so Steven Spielberg decided to show the beast as least as possible but it turned out to be a blessing. Since then, virtually every year, you get similar movies but none of them has ever reached its sheer awesomeness. Back then, it was only Spielberg's 3rd directing effort but it became the highest grossing movie ” read more

Not the best movie but one of the best

“Recently I've watched the three 'Jaws' sequels and none of them were good (although 'Jaws 2' certainly wasn't horrible, it was far from being a masterpiece), but the best one (by far) is the timeless starter 'Jaws'

You can award the shark from this movie, you can eat the shark from the third movie as your starter and the forth shark for the main course! I just hate thinking about 'Jaws: The Revenge'

But anyway we're talking about the first 'Jaws' movie! The timeless classic! Based on the best selling novel, 'Jaws' is about a great white shark who eats people when they just want to swim and every time the famous music plays, you know the shark is coming to get you!

“This is a classic movie, one of Steven Spielbergs best. The story is so simple, yet the monster and the realism of the story is horrific. If you live near the beach, and have had shark attacks you know just how scary this movie is. Watching the horrors of a shark attack on screen is terrifying, which is why this movie is so great. This is a all round great movie, and if you have not watched it do so. Warning though once you have watched this movie, and you head back to the beach you will never be the same again.” read more
