Ten Questions! (22 movies items)"Fellow Listal member James B. answered: What do you think your purpose is on Earth? I'd like to think that my purpose on Earth is to make movies. And I hope to accomplish that someday. Maybe if I can get off the internet. If you were to ban one thing or person, who/what would that be? Just one? Probably ignorance. When you look yourself in the mirror, what do you see? Some weird looking kid, who needs to get off the internet and get a job. 15 years from now you see yourself as... A director."
3003 Movies Into the New Age!!!...so far? (3003 movies items)"Directed by Sergei M. Eisenstein IVAN THE TERRIBLE part I (1944) IVAN THE TERRIBLE part II (1958) "
“The "battles" in “Ivan the Terrible” are fought more inside the halls rather than the battlefield, that even on his deathbed, the Tsar struggled with the opposition for roughly a third of the movie. There’s an epic battle smack in the middle but without the grandiosity of an “Alexander Nevsky.” For a 1944 film, “Ivan” looked severely dated but the story is strong and persuasive with Eisenstein focusing more on character development with deep facial focus that it remains one of the director’s biggest accomplishments in style and substance.” read more
Seen in 2011 (134 movies items)"The movie focuses on the early life of Tsar Ivan IV of Russia, as he seeks to unite Russia. The movie glorifies Ivan and sees him as a good guy. He faces betrayal, but doesnt look away from his longlife goal, to unite Russia. - The lead actor is fantastic!! 9/10 "
Mustanaamio7's Movie Diary - Year 2011 (713 movies items)"14.2. 2011 The first part of Eisenstein's visually expressive film begins with young Ivan's coronation at the age of sixteen. A little later Ivan marries Anastasia from the Romanov family, and struggles to hold his position as the great leader of Russian Empire. Like always, the director was forced to compromise his artistic vision, but both parts of his melodramatic epic still became exquisite classics and some of the most important works of Soviet cinema."
