There’s an epic battle smack in the middle but without the grandiosity of an “Alexander Nevsky.” For a 1944 film, “Ivan” looked severely dated but the story is strong and persuasive with Eisenstein focusing more on character development with deep facial focus that it remains one of the director’s biggest accomplishments in style and substance.” read more
