" The Ups: Unique and violent (for it's time) version of H.G. Wells' "Island of Dr. Moreau" where crazed Charles Laughton believe himself to be God. Impressive cinematography, a very sexy Leopard Woman and great makeup. Bela Lugosi do a nice supporting part as one of the genetic manipulated creatures. The Downs: A little stronger characterization would have made this movie a huge film. Now, it is a minor classic."

Dear Cinema Diary - Vol 3 E9a - etc 2012 (77 movies items)

"Oct 1st - First Time Viewing It was fun to watch one of the first adaptation of H.G. Wells story and with a 70min run time you won't be bored. I liked the character of Dr. Moreau in this film he feels far more villainous then other version. I didn't really bother with the Criterion extras but it was still nicely restored. "

"Viewed: September 29 2012 Charles Laughton stars as the twisted Dr. Moreau in this movie based on H.G. Wells' novel. This film has the 1930's horror feel that I'm beginning to get accustomed to. The story centers mostly around the shipwrecked character Edward Parker. But, Laughton and Kathleen Burke who plays Lota are the best characters to me. This is very different from the Dr. Moreau story with Burt Lancaster, and different still from the 90's version with Marlon Brando. Laughton is the best"
