Iron Man (2008)

...it's not a great movie. Yes, it has all the elements of action movies, but most of the super hero movies seem to be the same, the same formula. Even the bad guys doesn't seem to be that bad...

I think the error is trying to make a movie about a comics super hero trying to transform the comics into a movie. They should forget the comics format and start a story more appropriate to cinema...

Anyway, if you like action movies and high tech and don't care about a more deep and complex story, it's nice.

As a comicbook nerd, it's really cool for me that more of these types of movies are being made with more attention to the quality, visually & "creatively". I found this one a much more cohesive origin story than Marvel's major player, Spiderman's first go-at-it. The problem with the first film of any superhero flick is to be able to show enough of a detailed origin while still leaving enough room in the film for a transition of the character learning to deal with his/her powers & then some kind climatic confrontation with some sort of antagonist figure. To make a long story short: if you like Comic Book movies, this one is a must-see. Funny and fascinating in turns, and features Robert Downy Jr at his best. It's a great action film and never gets too horribly preachy. Just great fun to watch. And now for the spoilery bits. I will admit, the amount of stuff I know about Tony Stark/Iron Man would fit on the head of a pin, but this movie played up the few bits I knew exceptionally well. The fact that he's a playboy who would put Bruce Wayne to shame. The fact that he drinks like a fish. The fact that he's permanently attached to part of his suit. I had the chance to see Iron Man opening week with a friend of mine, and oh was it fun! I will admit that the first 15 minutes of the movie had me worried that this movie was going to be all kinds of American propaganda supporting the war on terrorism. I was pleasantly surprised after that first section to realize that it definitely more about the accountability of our own actions. Marvel definitely did not disappoint with this movie. But then again, it’s Marvel, so what did I expect? I mean, other than Spider-Man 3 and X-Men: The Last Stand, when has Marvel ever really disappointed me? this movie was so awsome!!!for real you should buy this movie first thing on your things to do before you die list.well some people thing that the movie was complicated but it was to good of a movie that your gonna have to buy it the minute after you saw that movie.it was also funny and hardcore action in this movie.im actually the biggest fan of ironman and all it comics,movies and cartoons.

iron man starts off with a bang. meet tony stark he's your average smart ass filthy rich weapons manufacturer played by a wonderful Robert Downey Jr. the first 20-30 minutes of the movie shows tony getting to know our troops in the middle east wich is rather hularious too.then later we see tony get captured by terrorists and build his first suit and makes an escape. Jeff bridges is obadiah stane stark's right hand man whom you won't even recognize in the movie until the credts roll and then you'll remeber that he's the dude without hair. leslie bibb is Christine Everhart the reporter that stark sleeps with also in the first 30 minutes of the movie only to try and down stark industries later in the movie.pepper potts is played by an all to charming Gwenyth Platrow who looks like clare danes...Read more

Robert Downey Jr is one of the best actors in Hollywood today. He completely convincing in his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man. The rest of the cast is excellent as well, no weak spots. The movie is engrossing from start to finish. They seem to have taken a few cues from Batman Begins and tried very hard to make the action and the technology believable (I do mean believable, not realistic, it's based on a comic book after all). For the most part, everyone follows the rules of physics. The only thing about the movie that really bothered me was how Iron Monger managed to master his suit instantly, while it took Tony Stark several weeks (months?) to do the same. "Iron Man" is a highly entertaning action/adventure/comedy film. The main reason for it's comedy is Robert Downey Jr. He is hilarious in this film, and is one of the best actors in the business today. The plot is very good. It had the right amount of action, character development, and comedy.

"Iron Man" isn't a must see film per say, but it does deliver some entertainment.

I loved this movie. The only thing is that I think there were lots of better choices for the role of Pepper than Gwyneth. Still, she was ok. Robert Downey Jr on the other hand was marvelous! Perfect. I hope to see him in future sequels.

this was the best 9 out of 10 for me
i was waiting for a good movie and this was the one perfect person to play iron man but there isint much action sees olny 3 but it is still a real good movie i saw the fist day it came out cause i knew in my heart it will be good
this was the best you should see it if u are looking for a real good movie now waiting for the dark knight

Iron Man is an origins story of how Tony Stark, genius and weapons manufacturer goes from having a carefree life to becoming a superhero in an iron (okay, titanium) suit. The plot is basic superhero stuff but Jon Favreau tells it well, mixing in action and drama with a liberal sprinkling of humor. I was unsure of how Robert Downey Jr would fare as Tony Stark/Ironman but he did a great job, highlighting both the arrogance and insecurity that is the character. The chemistry between him and Gywneth Paltrow who plays Pepper Potts is just right - their relationship is one of attraction but not veering into the romantic department.
