Since it was the only movie directed by David Lynch which I haven't seen yet, I was just dying to watch it and I can't believe it took me 6 years to see it. The weird thing is that, in those 6 years, David Lynch hasn't directed any other features. “While it may not be Lynch's masterpiece (even though it is excellent), Inland Empire is by far his strangest effort and probably the strangest film I've ever seen. Not only the style but the way it is presented is so unique and interesting. It may not make the least bit of sense, but I don't really care. However, if you are not familiar with the previous works of Lynch, you will absolutely hate this extremely surreal and disturbing piece of art. Dern gives an absolutely fantastic performance; I never knew she had it in her! Of course, Lynch guides us through one of the strangest experiences I have ever had sober in such a strange way because even though it may not be that hard to follow, you keep convincing yourself it is because it doesn't make the least bit of sense.
