Days of Glory offers a refreshing new viewpoint into the events of World War II. It tells the story of indigenous troops drafted from French-owned African territories in order to fight for the freedom of the French motherland from Nazi occupation. The troops are almost completely unskilled in battle techniques and are completely unprepared for war. It wouldn't be too unfair to suggest that they ar... read more
Works well as a war movie and as a study of the injustices imposed on North African troops by the French army during WWII. Well acted and an impressive all-rounder for a low budget film. I felt like I'd came out of this having learned something valuable.
Since I kept hearing good things about this flick, I was really eager to check it out. France has always had some very tensed relationships with its Arab immigrants and this movie shows this conflict goes way back in the past. You can even argue that it goes way before WWII which is portrayed in this movie. Anyway, this movie is directed by a French man with Arabic roots and stars an all-star Fren... read more

You may have never heard of them, but in France, they are very well known, especially Jamel Debbouze and Samy Naceri. Anyway, they give all some impressive performances and the story, which is really heartbreaking, didn't came as a surprise but it was definitely interesting for me. Why do I like it? Subdued colours and grain create an old wartime image. The faces contrasting with the film title just works so well. Nicely done."
"Tunnepitoinen kuvaus tuntemattomista sankareista toisessa maailmansodassa. Ranskalaisjoukkojen vahvistuksiksi vapaaehtoisesti tulleet algerialaissotilaat joutuvat kohtaamaan musertavat kulttuurierot ja pahalaatuista syrjintää heidän yrittäessään sopeutua Ranskan joukkoihin. Kerrankin sotakuvaus, jossa itse sota ei ole pääosassa vaan rasismi ja rotusyrjintä, johon sota on liitetty ovelasti mukaan. It wouldn't be too unfair to suggest that they are used merely as cannon fodder in the opening battles in Italy.
The men who survive are sent to the front and into France itself. For many of the troops this is the first time that they have seen the country they have been drafted to protect. Each man continues to give his best, but despite striving for honourable goals, the African troops encounter nothing but racism from their European” read more
