Though there are a few relatively tense, powerful scenes, overall, this film relies much on cloying melodrama to be particularly impacting. It does get better once Djimon Hounsou's character is introduced, who, in my opinion, is the very best thing about this film. Overall, however, this does not save it from dwelling into safe, formulaic tendency, and it is relatively unsatisfying by the end. "

“I kept hearing some amazing things about this movie and I loved the previous movies directed by Jim Sheridan, so, I had huge expectations before watching this flick. Unfortunately, it didn't meet those expectations. Indeed, I thought the whole thing was just too standard and predictable. I still enjoyed it though, since it is very well directed and since all the actors involved gave some very realistic and emotional perfomances. To conclude, it may not be great but it is a very well made drama and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you enjoyed Sheridan's previous work.” read more
