Not legendary

Posted : 11 months, 1 week ago at Dec 27 18:15
I had been meaning to see this one for quite some time, but just didn't get around to it. Also, a lot of negative feedback from others who had already watched the movie made me want to wait even longer to see it. My biggest problem with the film was its lack of explanation for many things. You don't know precisely how the virus took a turn for the worse and infects so many, nor what Robert Neville's (Will Smith) exact roll was in the beginning. You only see him play his part after the virus has spread through New York City and it's being quarantined. I was left with many questions at the end of the film. Did Neville creature-proof his home in a matter of a single day? How were the vampires/zombies able to learn new things? Where exactly did Anna and Ethan come from, and how h...Read more

Good but no Legend...

''My name is Robert Neville. I am a survivor living in New York City. I am broadcasting on all AM frequencies. I will be at the South Street Seaport everyday at mid-day, when the sun is highest in the sky. If you are out there... if anyone is out there... I can provide food, I can provide shelter, I can provide security. If there's anybody out there... anybody... please. You are not alone.'' Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure. Will Smith: Robert Neville One man who is immune against a deadly virus that has wiped out humanity tries to survive and find any remnants of humanity with his trusty canine pal Sam. Will Smith who plays Robert Neville does his part. Al...Read more

Okay, so I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did, after hearing both the hype and the complaints about it. I never went to see it in the theatres because it wasn't the sort of movie I generally go see. I do think it could have been handled much better, though. And I think the real ending (granted, I've only heard about it) would have been much better than the one we ended up with.

I also think my high rating may have something to do with the fact that I recently (last week) watched the Cruise War of the Worlds, and this is grand cinema by comparison. It makes it harder to see the flaws in this one.

Definitely won't become one of my favorite-ever movies, but not bad for an evening or day of horror films.

plot holes anybody?

Posted : 1 year, 7 months ago at Apr 28 17:46
As Prelude clearly states in his review, there are tons of plot holes, from start to finish. He's mentioned the most important ones. My problem with this film is also with the idea - it's such a simple plot: allegedly there is one last man in NYC after a virus wipes out everyone else; he's a doctor and wants to save the world by finding a cure to the virus. The way the plot was handled could have been better, there were so many opportunities for it to sway, but there were no surprises, just the typical Hollywood trash. As for the acting, I can't say Will Smith impressed me. Not a noteworthy performance. I did like the fact that there weren't many actors, and that he does go nuts (clearly visible in the video store scenes) because he lacks a social environment. Also, I found the ...Read more

Good zombie/vampire movie

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago at Mar 26 3:35
Knowing that readers of the original book and viewer of the other films that was based on the book, The Last Man on Earth and Omega Man, I think this version of I Am Legend is worth watching. The movie starts with a news section that reports that cancer has been cured. The only draw back is found a couple months later that 9% of the people that took the cure turned into vampire/zombies that ended up killing most of the 91% that was left and now only one man is left. And Will Smith's character Robert Neville is that man. Thinking he is the last man not infected by the virus, Neville and his only companion a dog Sam, goes day and night in New York trying to survive and also tries to find a cure to the virus. The movie some times switches between flashbacks to when the outbreak started with...Read more

It reminded me of...

Posted : 1 year, 9 months ago at Mar 5 16:42
...Children of Men, but without the really cool nocut scenes. First it is really fun to see a blockbuster without much human interaction dialogue. The scenes of a NYC taken over by nature was pretty cool. The whole humanity is on the verge of exinction and only one thing can save us all and we're so close to getting it, really felt a lot like Children of Men. The only real difference is that Children of Men is better.

Last man!

Posted : 1 year, 9 months ago at Feb 8 13:49
For those of you that are movie buffs and enjoy horror movies, check out Will Smiths new movie "I Am Legend" Its about him being the last man on earth. This movie is based on Richard Mathesons book that came out in 1954. Two movies followed after the release of the book. The Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price which actually followed the book pretty close but being that it came out in 1964, the effects were not that great. After that The Omega Man starring Charleton Heston came out in 1971, that was pretty good but did not follow the book as much. I have both of these films, and enjoy both very much. As far as Will Smiths new remake I enjoyed it but still like the Omega Man better as well as the book. The only thing I didnt like about Smiths new movie were digital infected humans I ...Read more

It wasn't what I expected, to say the least. Actually I really didn't know what to expect from this, I really didn't know much about this other than Will Smith was in it and it had something to do with him being the last man on earth? (You can tell I only had a quick look at the advertising poster). But for me this was definitely worth seeing, sure, it could have been a little better, but it was satisfying enough to see. Okay, so I've never read the book, what this was about and what happens was a mystery to me. This didn't really make me want to read the book, as interesting as this is.. I just don't have any interest in reading it. This flick was full of suspense and scenes where I was on the edge of my seat. It had lots of sudden moments and movements where I jumped a bit at the star...Read more

my god was this lame

Nice effects and theme, but that's about all I give it. What a load of garbage! My brain still hurts from all the idiotic plot holes and unimportant garbage they put in. Like the herd of deer running amok thru streets of NY. Even at the start of the film, it was puzzling as hell, as to why there are all of a sudden hundreds of deer in middle of NYC after only 3 bloody years! And if you factor in the fact that there are thousands of killer mutants out there every night, and that the bridges were all blown up 3 years ago, leaving only the Central Park population of deer to multiply to such herd level, well, you'd have to be a retarded 5-year old not to notice that plot hole. So only logical answer is they included the deer hunting scene at the start to get the redneck audience all jacked up,...Read more

No, I am legend

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago at Dec 29 20:19
The other reviews have made me interested enough in the book to go out and buy it and after enjoying the film for various reasons I can't wait to read it. The film is centred solely around one man, Robert Neville, and his daily turmoil. I liked how interesting Robert Neville's daily routine was, despite how mundane you would expect it to be as it shows how he has adapted to his surroundings. Minor details such as having Picasso paintings on his living room wall give an insight into how Neville has kept himself busy during the cripplingly lonely days. With the breakdown of all responsibility he's helped himself to the latest guns, the finest food, drink, cars and artwork. It still astounds me that other reviewers expect him to be driving generic cars when he has the pick of the city. See...Read more

Ah, HELL No!

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago at Dec 29 20:00
I'm a fan of post-apocalyptic scenarios. What the world would be like without everyday life.

I heard a lot about the book but I can definitely assume that the film isn't a replica of it. But creativity and poetic license make unique projects.

Will Smith had his moments and I couldn't really imagine anyone else pulling off this role as fluidly.

My favourite aspect of the film was the comradery between Neville and Sam. They needed each other to survive and it only became apparent when they only had each other.

[Film] I Am Legend

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago at Dec 28 2:45
Without having read the book, I enjoyed the movie to some extend. The barren deserted cityscape of New York conveyed vividly the bleak tone of the movie as well as the lonely isolation of its protagonist. Will Smith does a good job portraying the apparent lone survivor of an epidemic that wiped out most of the humankind and turned the rest into zombie-esq monsters. One can feel his maddening loneliness as he, accompanied only by his dog, goes through his daily routine of working out, hunting and waiting for contact from other survivors while trying to survive himself. The movie does its job as a thriller and tries its best to bring some emotional substance to its main character (There was one very effective scene that brought many in the audience to tears). However, as soon as the movi...Read more

Quite different from the book

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago at Dec 17 1:07
While I prefer the downbeat ending of the book, I quite liked the new movie, mostly because one of the most appealing aspects of this genre for me is the "man alone in the empty city". I was quite content watching Will Smith hunt and play golf and talk to himself or to the dog. Far less content with how significantly they changed the meaning of Matheson's story, but that's Hollywood for you.

Major Disappointment

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago at Dec 16 18:08
After reading the book I was hoping for a great vampire movie but this film was not a great vampire movie. It did have it's moments but it wasn't anywhere near as good as the book. They used zombies instead of vampires and they barely even showed them. The book was well written and had a point. This movie had no point. While it would have been okay to take the movie and make it different from the book, this movie changed the point. The point was he was the only survior, making him legend, the vampires used to be legend but then there were so many of them. The man was the last man and he fought until the end. Will Smith ran away throughout most of the movie. It was too different from the book. It's the first movie I've ever been to where people walked out and said they didn't get it.

My type of movie

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago at Dec 15 15:42
Sure, we've seen a few other zombie movies pop up over the past few years, but that won't stop "I Am Legend" from being a quality movie to add to that bunch. I personally liked watching Will Smith work his way throughout the film as the isolated human in a bleak landscape, he did a good job being alone and onscreen for a majority of the movie with one kick-ass dog sidekick. You could hear a pin drop for most of film, which made things even more tense. I like to think of this movie as a mix of two of my other favorite horror movies in recent memory, 28 Days Later (environment, subject matter) and The Descent (the creatures). Recommended for anyone who enjoyed those two.

Very Good Movie.

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago at Dec 15 2:19
I actually enjoyed this film a lot. It was not as good as I was expecting, but very enjoyable. Will Smith also had a lot of funny jokes. So overall, a very enjoyable film. And not to mention. There were a lot of very dull, quiet scenes. But, that doesn't stop it from being a very good film.
