"Movie that supposedly depicts the discovery of the vibrator as it really happened. Hard to believe that a Dr. was dedicated to curing women of hysteria in the 1800s and the cure involved some rubbing and oils and... Well you get the story....A charming little waste of time but only if you have nothing else to do and like period pieces and even that is a stretch. Oh yeah and if a rebellious women's equal rights pioneer, Mags Gyllenhaal is your cup of tea"
"A cute little film about the invention of the vibrator in 1880s England as a medical device used to treat hysteria in women. Don't expect anything to heavy. It's a pretty lightweight film and surprisingly tame given the subject matter. Less a history lesson and more Victorian Era romantic comedy. Nothing too special, but it works well enough.

"I know! Let's make a largely enjoyable movie that's actually quite funny and engaging, but disguise it as just another stuffy costume drama."
Amazingly, everyone listened."

"Destined to forever be under-seen, this was one of the most agreeable surprises of the year. Hysteria is a fun and engaging movie filled with class, humor, and heart. Every performance is strong. It deserves to be seen.
