What can be said about Honey, I Shrunk the Kids? Well it's a classic sci-fi family story invovling an accident with a shrink ray. Throw it in with a backyard and you have yourself a jungle where the smallest everyday animals, insects, and of course lawn-mowers can lead you to death (You know for kids!).

But, joking aside this film took an idea (shrinking) that had recently picked up ... read more

Throughout the history of cinema, family films went from being timeless classics that hold up to this day (i.e. The Wizard of Oz) to being sophomoric, bland, etc. (i.e. I can't think of anything...) And what about Honey, I Shrunk the Kids? Well, during the 80's and a good bit of the 90's, this movie was a big deal, especially when it was fresh, leading to a few parodies on Saturday morning cartoon... read more

For a family movie this is a good movie to watch, it is not a great movie but one the whole family can watch. It stars Rick Moranis as Wayne Szalinski, who invents a machine that off course shrinks the kids. The movie is full of adventure, drama and a good time. Not the best story, but it is enjoyable to watch and a good one for families.

A good movie

“This movie is definitely a childhood favorite. Indeed, I saw it in the theater when it was released, I must have been 10 years old, and I really loved the damned thing at the time. Back then, when there was no CGI, I thought it looked really awesome and the story was really exciting for my young age. Of course, the plot was not really impressive but it was never supposed to be since it was definitely oriented towards a young audience. After all these years, I have to admit that it does look a little bit cheesy for nowadays standards but I still think the whole thing still look decent even 20 years later. Obviously, since it was a box-office success, they had to come up with a sequel. Eventually, I watched this sequel many years later and it was just terribly underwhelming. Very fun size change indeed!

“Rick Moranis was possessed by ghosts in ‘Ghostbusters’, now he’s a preoccupied inventor in ‘Honey, I Shrunk The Kids’ where he creates a machine that will blow up apples but will shrink his kids and his neighbours’ kids!

‘Honey, I Shrunk The Kids’ features Moranis’ character’s kids being shrunk along with the neighbour’s kids after one of the Thompson kids accidentally hits a baseball through the window activating the shrink machine! The kids walk in and get shrunk along with a thinking couch!

The kids end up in the backyard where they have to keep walking to survive, they get splashed with the hose, ride a massive (compared to them) ant and at one point have to sleep in a LEGO brick! Very fun size change indeed!

“Throughout the history of cinema, family films went from being timeless classics that hold up to this day (i.e. The Wizard of Oz) to being sophomoric, bland, etc. (i.e. I can't think of anything...) And what about Honey, I Shrunk the Kids? Well, during the 80's and a good bit of the 90's, this movie was a big deal, especially when it was fresh, leading to a few parodies on Saturday morning cartoons like The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. And I can perceive why it was.

The special effects were really sublime for its time, and somewhat still hold up, the sets look like that the kids were actually shrunken, the bee and Anty look as realistic as possible, the characters are all likable and quirky, and the humor can be sharp and witty.

So, yes, overall, even after over 20 yea” read more
