For Paul Verhoeven, it was his 3rd critical flop in a row and the end of his career in the US. Honestly, even though it seems to be considered as one of his weaktest movies, I don't think it is that bad actually. Indeed, it is a very dark version of this famous story with some awesome special effects, even for today's standards. The whole thing was pretty violent and (very) sleazy, as usual with V... read more

The Ups: Great effects. It really try to think about what a pervert man would do if he was invisible. Kevin Bacon is believable as sleazy scientist.
The Downs: Logic bursts. How the hell would anybody return back to his closed rooms when he could run around in town naked and have fun? Did the invisible serum also make him immortal? Too many neutral and boring studio corridors. What is that I hear? The Hollywood death rattle of Paul Verhoeven. "

Indeed, it is a very dark version of this famous story with some awesome special effects, even for today's standards. The whole thing was pretty violent and (very) sleazy, as usual with Verhoeven, and at some moments, it felt like some pretty neat introcution to some super villain. Unfortunately, I must admit, the dialogs were terribly cheesy, even though the cast was decent (Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth Shue, Joshn Brolin), the acting was pretty average and, above all, the story was pretty weak, especially during the ending which seemed to come out from some very average slasher flick.” read more
